Confused about the Steam version of the game?

I'm going to be playing during the 'Welcome Back Weekend' and will most likely be purchasing the game afterwards.
I was going to buy it on Steam for the simplicity of having all my games in one place, but the notice at the top of the page confused me.
It says you need an ESO account to play but can't combine the steam version with an existing account? I feel like I'm miss interpreting this. :|

    Hello all,

Players still need a launcher to play the game via the Steam Client. Steam will automatically open the launcher when players start the game from their Steam Library.
Also, you will still be able to use your beta account after your purchase. No need to create a new one, your beta account will change into a normal account.

Well, I had an account before. Then got the game through Steam and was able to use old just fine.
It doesn't really matter since you log in with the ESO account inside the client.
