First time (trying to) play since Tamriel Unlimited - ESO stops working on loading screen!

Hi team!

So uhm.. I wanted to get back into ESO, now that it's free and updated etc. But I can't. The loading screen (to Riften, where I put my character when I logged out and cancelled my subscription last year) crashes. I've tried repairing. I'm running as admin. I've tried disabling my firewall. I've tried rebooting the PC. I've lowered my graphics. I run without addons. It's a clean installation.

Unbelievable for a game in 2015 to be virtually impossible to simply log in to!

Check out the gaming crashing thread in PC technical report. Suggest putting OPENGL in place of DS3D9 or DS3D11 in the user settings file

Tried it. Same problem.

Note that I'm not getting crashes. I'm not even getting into the game. At all. Not even for a second. I select my character, press enter or whatever, load for a few seconds and it stops responding.

Yep that is the infinite load screen issues. Have you run a repair and checked your video drivers?

try deleting the ZO_Ingame.lua file in, always seems to help me when I get stuck on infiinite load screens

Documents> ESO > Live > Savedvariables

I have no such file. Remember I haven't even managed to get into the game.

Well you can try D3D9 as temporary option. It might help, might not. On D3D11 my game loads to Riften once of three times I try to load - and then crashes shortly after loading. On D3D9 I can run over Riften.

Try making a shortcut on your desktop from the eso.exe file in the \Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client

Then hold down your shift key and select run as administrator on the new eso.exe shortcut on your desktop - see if this helps

What you've suggested (which I tried, I mean, maybe the shortcut would make a difference, right? Who knows?!) is exactly what I always do with every game I play. Except I don't make a short cut to do it, I just edit the properties to always run it as admin. I am not logged in as admin. I get the security prompt every time I click to play ESO or any other game.

That is to say, I haven't played ESO in half a year and seemingly I won't be able to ever again.

I give up.

It's such a shame, because I really love this world and seeing this becoming a success would be the best thing ever. Sadly, as people can't even seem to get into the game, the content is entirely irrelevant.

Maybe the next big content patch will somehow fix it. See you in 6 months guys 'n gals.

@Filth mate try bypassing launcher at all and runnig eso.exo from directory - i have many problems with launcher and this way im able to play.

I am having the same problem.
I just can't load my characters on the EU server. I tested the NA server and that did seem to work somehow, but that is no solution.
I have tried a few things over the past few weeks:

Waited 45 minutes for it to load.
Clicked repair in the launcher.
Tried various characters in different locations.
Removed all addons.
Removed Usersettings.txt and the whole liveeu folder.
Tried various game settings; low/high/ultra / D3D9/D3D11/OPENGL
Ran the game as admin and in XP compatibility mode.
Set process priority to high in task manager.
Moved the game to a SSD.
Reinstalled the game completely.
Updated GFX drivers.
Forwarded ports ports on my router.
Completely bypassed my router.
Disabled firewall and antivirus.
Flushed DNS.

Thanks guys. I tried both. I still have the same problem. Infinite -> crash loading screen upon trying to enter the world with any character.

Then, i think it's a guild-related problem.
Make a ticket to withdraw you from your guilds.

Changing the language to german seems to work for me.
Unfortunately my german is pretty bad and this is no solution.
But perhaps this will help the support team to narrow down the problem.

Hi @augyr and anyone else looking to try the language-change resolution for being in a broken guild -

The temporary workaround that has worked for many players experiencing this is as follows. Please change the language of your launcher to German or French, which will allow you to login.

Once you have logged into your game, please go to your Guild tab and leave the guild. After leaving the guild, you may change your language back to English.

Please note: We do not advise re-joining the guild that caused this issue once you are able to login again, as it may cause more problems. If you are unable to log in still, please try the process again, but leave all of your guilds before changing your language back.

This always happens usually when you first load the game, If it doesnt load in 30 secs just alt f4 and do it again.
