hard cap??

I know they removed soft caps but is there hard caps on stats that I should quit dumping points into like armor or spell resistance. ..my spell resistance is over 40k and someone told me I was wasting points into this because it's hard cap at 32k..so what have you smart build tester found out with things like this??

If I go over that amount do I get the full return...with 1.5 soft cap for every 2 points you went over you got 1..and do you know if there is a hard cap on resistance?

Just test it... Start at 25k armor. Go to 30. Then 32-35. Then 40. Get hit by some random npc or a friendly player from another faction.. See how his dmg decreases and if it stopa decreasing. I heard hard cap is 32k. Never got official confirmation tho..

There is a hard cap on the mitigation you can get from armor. 50%. This is achieved with a bit over 32000 armor. You can have more armor than that, but it will only be useful when you get armor-debuffed.

For example, if you have 36000 armor, and someone hits you with a 4000 armor debuff, you will still have your maximum 50% resistance (basically you will be immune to armor debuffs)

There is no hard or soft cap on armor or spell resist. If you are at 32,500 resist and add 1000 more, you will get the full 1000 and be at 33,500. But there is a hard cap of 50% on damage mitigation. You get 1% damage mitigation for each 650 of armor/spell resist. 650 x 50 = 32,500. So that is why 32500 is often looked at as a hard cap. BUT ... if a PvP player or PvE boss has some level of armor/spell penetration, it can effectively reduce your armor/spell resist. So if you have 32,500 spell resist and someone has 12% spell penetration, I believe that lowers your effective spell resist from 32,500 to 28,600. 28,600 mitigates 44% of damage, not 50%. If you have spell resist of 40,000 and are attacked by something with 12% penetration, I believe that lowers your effective spell resist from 40,000 to 35,200. 35,200 mitigates 54.15% of damage, but there is a hard cap of 50% on mitigation, so you will mitigate 50% of the damage not 54.15%.

I really don't know how much armor/spell penetration most players or PvE bosses have. But if you are really determined to mitigate 50% of damage, you can go higher than 32,500 so that after penetration, you are still above the 50% mitigation cap.

40K Spell resistance is the sweet spot ans is easy to achieve in everyone with Heavy Armor.

Also keep in mind that difference between Going from 49% to 50% mitigation is a ~2% reduction in the damage you take for the same 650 SR that reduces the damage you take by ~`% from going from 0 to 1% Mitigation.

If I were using all Heavy Armor I would definitely be shooting for 40K instead of 32,500.

@ZOS_GinaBruno is there a Hard/Soft Cap in ESO right now? Ppl are saying the hard Cap in life is 35. Is this true? Is there a Cap at all?

hard cap for resistance and mitigation is 50%.... while damage still has a soft cap cause ZOS hates tanks.

Hardcap for life is about 90k. Got hit by a bus today and only minor bruising. Noob driver panicked and drove off, wouldn't 1v1 me
