Mage Light and xp distribution

I recently switched to have mage light/inner light on my skillbar and was thinking about how this is gonna effect my xp gain from mobs/quests. As far as I understand I gain more xp to a skillline if I have more skills on my bar from it.

If I have magelight on my skillbar, does this means I'm literally wasting my xp gain, since from mob kills and quests I cant contribute towards the mage guild skillline.

Is this how it works? Or maybe the game is intelligent enough to not punish the player for this, and that skillbar's contribution is spread amongts the rest of the equipped spells/skilllines?

When you get xp, it contributes to the level of the indivdual skills on your bar (so magelight going from level 3 to level 4). Each skill tree (so, mages guild for example) tells you how it levels up when you mouse over it.

So think of it this way. Yes, you're not directly leveling any skill lines by having magelight. However, if magelight is making it easier to kill things, you're killing faster than you are without it, and are increasing the speed your other skills level. Plus, you are leveling magelight itself, unless magelight is at max level already.

this is why many people set up "Skill XP bars" for when they turn in quests.
I play every class in every situation. I love them all.
