Provisioning writ question... How to get high level recipes

I have a level 7 character designed to just be my foodie. My provisioning writs never give me veteran recipes despite having all of the provisioning skills maxxed.

Do you need a vet level character to get vet level recipes? Or do provisioning writs never give those veteran recipes?

Yeah, recipe level is determined by the zone they drop in.. soo.. in order to get Vet level recipes, you need to be in vet level zones.

Back before 1.6 I would only get VR5 Recipes.

I was VR14 with all skills maxxed and SP invested. Just to confirm when you say all skills maxxed you do mean having invested SP into the crafting skills themselves right? I know that most of the crafts used to pay out materials equal to the level of the skill invested.

If that's the case you could try submitting a bug report about the issue and see if anything comes of it.

Before 1.6, the recipes dropped would be equal to your character level. VR5 was the highest level at the time, therefore your VR14 would get VR5 recipes.

NOW, recipe level is according to the ZONE you find it in. So.. Caldwell Silver areas you find VR1 recipes, Caldwell Gold areas you find VR5, and Crag you find VR10. AS well, if you go back to you very first zone (even if you are VR) you will find level 1-15ish recipes.

Your provisioning level has nothing to do with what level recipes you find it the world.

[EDIT] That is ONE way of getting Veteran recipes. Use your veteran character to explore veteran ranked zones, send the recipes to your Lvl 7 to learn. As for crafting writ rewards, to be honest.. I never paid attention (they always gave me recipes I knew). I'm not sure what that is tied to.

@MissBizz the information I was giving was all in regards to the crafting writs as outline by the OP. I should have stated that more clearly, sorry. :flushed:

    Oh sorry

I always THOUGHT I would receive recipes that matched the crafting level of my character handing in the writ. Since 1.6 I'm not sure. I'll do one tonight and may more attention.

It is tied to your Recipe Level. If you want top tier recipes, set your recipe level to 6. I have VR Ranks that are doing L1, L3 and L4 Recipes and that is what they get from the containers. My mules are currently doing L1's until they finally get all the L1 Recipes. You would think 3 of them would have done this by now. I may have to level up my two other mules I was going to delete.

Now, I don't know what happens if you have a low level Mule that knows L6 Recipes, that would be interesting to find out.

Problem is, will you have to go to Craglorn to drop them off? I think they fixed it so your character will not be sent to where you can't get to.

I currently have a v14 with max provisioning and max recipe improvement SP. Writs give v10 purple recipes occasionally. I have a v2 with max provisioning and max recipe improvement SP. He also gets v10 purple recipes. Both toons have to go to Craglorn to drop off. Before my v2 character became a vet (sub-vr), that toon would have to drop off at Craglorn as well. I just quick traveled to a guildie in Craglorn to open up the wayshrine. Hope that helps.

I think the writs are based on the level of your recipe improvement.

Ok, so to give more information to clarify-- I have a level 7 character. I ran around to find skyshards, reached level 50 in provisioning and have put all of my skill points into provisioning. I am able to make food for any level.

However, my provisioning writs have me always do drop offs in Windhelm (Eastmarch). And the recipes I get from that area are never above level 45.

Conclusion: I need to use a Vet level character to do provisioning writs if I want to get Vet level recipes. Max provisioning skill and skillpoints are not enough to push you into getting veteran level provisioning writs.

Maybe I'll try traveling to craglorn to see if the location where you pick up the writ makes a difference. (I don't think it does.. my guess is no matter where I get the writ, it will still have me drop it off in Windhelm).

This is correct. I've got a level 34 provisioner with provisioning at 50 and every skill point in there, and she only ever gets sent to Bangkorai for her writs. If your character isn't Vet level, you'll never get sent to Craglorn to turn in writs, so you'll never get writs for VR level items, or VR level rewards from writs.

One issue I didn't know would occur is getting a purple recipe (duck soup) that stated it made L50 food in the tooltip, then when I've learnt it, it makes VR5 food. That was rather frustrating. So the search goes on :).

Duck soup was one of the purple recipes which changed after last big patch 1.6. The recipe and remaining lvl 50 foods converted into VR5 foods (was quite handy as they were cheaper to make, and you could prepare some stacks before patch to have ready). Also some purple VR5 recipes converted into VR10 (this was annoying as I had some ready but couldn't use them after patch). Not all recipes and foods converted.

Update your addons like crafting material level display because pre-patch descriptions don't match at all anymore.

You found it annoying? You and me both. I have several VR5 and VR10 recipes - and foods which my main currently can't consume. When I got the duck soup recipe I was relieved because it stated it was L50, I should have realised it might be an error. I want a VR1 purple recipe for my main but I've gotten the second highest character to make VR1 food for her, He'll be VR soon too because I'm transferring her armour to him, being the same basic sort :D.
