Siege Damage - A perspective many dont consider

So there was this time that Siege Damage in blackwater blade was absolutely lethal. Back in the days when players had 1900 health and fire ballistas ticked for 400 (600 if vamp) and so on. Oil did 600 a tick, the like.

Many of us who frequented there (myself being a former emp of that campaign) learned to adapt and incorporate siege damage into our playstyle. I was actually somewhat notorious for being the one that always used fire ballistas point blank in fights, even in 1v1 sometimes.

I think I understand why so many of you cry about it, because you never actually learned how to play in a high siege damage environment.

I still remember the days I was killing 20 people by myself over and over in solo defenses of bleakers and chalman as a level 25 sorc just by laying down two fire ballistas or a fire ballista and a meatbag.

I learned that red circles hurt, I learned that it was hilarious to watch lemmings walk into yours.

Ive had six months of experience while many of you took it all for granted. Just thought id throw that out there.

So perhaps some of you are having a crash course now, but youll learn, eventually. We all did. it gets better once you figure out how to stay out of red, where to place a siege weapon for maximum effectiveness, how to time shots when people mill about to hit where they are going vs where they are.

Perhaps someday we will view siege as a tool, and not complain about it. What do you guys think?

There's a joke that 1.6 was "my" patch because I love siege and used it so much in my play style. I've been waiting for this for a long time. Had trained myself on what to use where and when. I like to think of it as an art. :)

Siege was always strong until they *** up the scaling with it for 1.6. Right now, I wouldn't even consider Cyro a PvP zone.

At vet levels with 3k+ health it was laughable man. You could literally stand in oil and take it with just a class shield or a few self heals.

Imagine trying to do that with 1900 health, just couldnt be done. Even purge spammers ran out of steam after a couple shots.

So when they ramped up the siege damage vs the new health pools, it pretty much put it in line with how it was on the nonvet for a very long time (minus the OP guards)

I don't even want to play Cyrodiil the way it is now. Wow I cant believe how one sided some people can be. So you are saying that running around fighting other characters and trying to manage your stamina/mana have nothing to do with avoiding siege damage? It isn't just a matter of learning how to deal with it. There is no way to deal with it. Sorc's overpowered shields is not a tactic, it is a broken mechanic that will soon be fixed. You do realize that the closer the siege then the smaller amount of time that red circle is visible. You also realize that not everyone has perfect latency? I have died more to siege this past week then I have died in Cyrodiil the past 1k hours I have played this game. I bet the people who defend the new siege damage are the ones who just hang out in the castles all day waiting to defend. Right now as a v5 Templar Dark Elf I die immediately if hit by a firepot Treb. The average fire ballista is doing 24k damage to me. Odd you talk about how siege was very usefull before the major damage boost. So if it was very usefull before then what is it now? That doesn't take a genius to figure out at all.

I actually somewhat agree with your point on blackwater blade. I made a character a couple of months ago to spend some time there myself and I think that has helped me avoid siege. I'm a vampire with 19k health (Huntler gives me a lecture on a daily basis). There are still situations where siege can't be avoided though, an organised group can hold a breach forever with siege, forcing the attacker to make 2 if not 3 breaches to take a keep. At the moment siege is the obvious choice, which says to me it's not balanced.

Siege weapons effectively break up groups that are just sitting in a group instant healing everyone while at 100%. Quite frankly if you sit there while doing nothing against someone setting up a siege weapon you deserve to wipe.

Now actually have to move to survive and even set up your own siege weapons outside of keeps if your in a long standing battle.

BS i was owning people with oils/meatbags/fire balista pre 1.6. Everyone should have just learned to play when we had a better game.

If you were to get hit with a horse sized flaming arrow as big around as soda can id say it would nearly kill you in one hit, if not cripple you for life if you were to survive...

People asked for it, and got it, and now they  lol

Im no Ronald McDonald but I'm sure lovin it!

can we stop with the comparisons to real world scenarios? i don't give a crap if a boulder would smash you in real life, we have people teleporting, turning their skin into lava, and conjuring bats... come on people

I love the new changes to siege. I know some will disagree but if you're in the red you're dead. Maybe one slight change is the minimum range for siege might need to be adjusted. Shooting a fire ballista 5-10 feet in front of you to wipe a zerg on a flag might be a little bit more powerful than envisioned and needs to be looked at again.

I'll say it again. I love the siege change.

What I love about siege damage is that is once again separate people in two basic groups.
    1) PvPers or people paying attention to more then just their keayboard
    2) the rest, who follow the crowd
When you are dead, you don't know that you are dead. It is difficult only for the others.
It is the same when you are stupid.

Two things that would be interesting & might improve siege.

First differentiate between friendly amd unfriendly siege visual notifications so you don't wate time dodging friendly fire...

    OR...

Make friendly siege fire hurt so siege can be used to break up zergs but not to support them (unless impeccably accurate and well timed like laying down covering fire).

For a few days high damage siege was breaking up battles, now people are adapting with purge, vigor, barrier etc and all those extra effects needing processing seem to be creating even longer ping storms.

Yeah most of what I just read was someone attempting to brag about their amazing use of siege a year ago. The same use that everyone else is using.

Siege did plenty of damage before 1.6, sometimes would still kill people instantly. And oils would wipe entire raids immediately on the stairs.

Now the group with more people has more siege and that's the biggest advantage. But honestly I don't care, good players are still better with siege than bads.

Emperor of Blackwater- King of the noobs.

Siege has always been strong. If you have run 2 fire ballistas yourself, you know how deadly focused fire is. I've yet to see an organized group coordinate siege. Having multiple people firing on the same spot pretty much guarantees instant death.
