Is anyone else getting tired of the pvp in this game?

I am starting to get tired of the pvp already. The main concern I have is I just am not effective at all. One of the problems I find with a game where you have total customization of your character as far as skills is concerned is, is there is almost too many choices to choose from. Before you call me out as a whiner or whatever, think of this for a second. You have 50 or so different skills you have. You can only have 5 on your hotbar at a time. This poses many problems in itself. I have an issue with this personally because there are far too many skills I'd like to have and can't because I obvoiusly can't have them all. I can never find the right combination that I feel comfortable with using because something is always missing. I stopped playing the game for several monthes and obviously alot of changes were introduced. So the things I remembered from BEFORE, are now obsolete. Meanwhile other players have found their niche` of skills and I assume are comfortable with that. I can't seem to find the right combination and attempting pvp is just absolutely frustrating. I can be 1-2 shot by a guy yet I can spam spam spam skills till the cows come home and i'm doing absolute *** damage. As a sorc I have my ward. It does nothing. I have to spam this JUST to keep from dying, taking away my ability to do actual damage. and If I AM lucky enough to get in a hit, it does so little damage I'm seriously beginning to wonder if I'm even doing any damage at all. As I mentioned before this is extremely frustrating. I've always hated "cookie cutter" builds though. I was always determined to find a skill set that I was comfortable with and play that way, but I never was able to be effective in pvp this way. This is a very big problem for me as a whole because I either have to sacrifice any fun I'll have with the game in favor of being useful in pvp, or either forget playing pvp altogether or going with my own personal builds and just accepting that there isn't much I can do in pvp. This is very discouraging for me. I am also starting to wonder if I'm just losing my desire to really pvp because pvp in this game just frustrates me to no end. I want to be able to enjoy it. Hell in beta pvp was the most fun I had since Dark Age of Camelot. Now with the lag issues, people being super powerful with me having little to no chance of even matching anyone far as I can see, I am just wondering if my desire for pvp is in vain?

It's not skill spam, but the rotation and position you use that is key. Use the skills in an order that makes them build off of each other. Then, move around, don't stand in one place.

Everyone else who is going against you just has 5 skills on their bar, they are in the same boat you are in.

Also, PvP, and Trials requires a more focused build, you can't be a Hybrid, either go all Stamina or all Magic.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

As I stated though, I literally have to spam my hardened ward just to stay alive, and I'm inevitably dead before firing off a shot 9/10 times. I'm not hybrid either, I'm all magicka based at the moment. Have been for awhile, though Im looking to try a possible 2h build but thats not important right now. I do admit since they gave us a massive respec I tried different skills and I don't really have money right now to respec so I'm kind of stuck with the skills I do have. But you can't tell me that even if with my spec now, I can't land a hit or even have a chance in pvp? I mean I have actually been too afraid to get into major engagements in fear that i"m just going to be 1-2 shot before I'm able to get a potshot off. Whats the fun in that? This to me isn't fun and I pvp to have fun. PvE is fine and stuff but I am the type of person that likes a bit of everything. How am I to enjoy pvp when I'm so far behind I'm probably better off not even going to Cyrodiil? I simply don't know.

Umm. So much to say but I'll keep it short.

Don't spam spam spam, instead try to use your skills when they will be most effective. Identify when a player is not blocking or has their shields down, then use a skill.

You don't mention what gear you use or even most skills you play with nor do you tell us what kind of play you are looking for. I can't decide if youre really looking for help or just ranting.

Which is why most PvP players have the attitude of super-uber players and yet they suck badly in most difficult PvE content. :)

In PVP you are spamming Hardened Ward, in what context are you fighting? Are you 1 on 1? PVP is more enjoyable to me in a group or perhaps 3 or 4 players, that way you use the synergy of the classes and skills together. I can bet you will not be spamming HW that much when you are being healed. To be effective you need to play with others out there.

I know not to spam... You seem to be missing what I'm saying. If I get hit once with anythign half my life is gone, if I don't hit hardened Ward I'm dead in 2 hits. 1 hit on me WITH Hardened ward and the ward is completely gone. So in order to keep form dying in 2-4 hits, I have to spam Hardened Ward. I don't even GET a chance to use anything else. I was in PvP earlier with a group of us, about 14 or so. 1 sorc who was so tanked out we couldn't even get them out of shielded hp. Yet he was tearing through us like a hot knife through butter. If I was so much as hit I was dead. If it weren't for getting heals I'd have died any and every time he targeted me. I can't really explain how bad that is.

I will never claim to be good at PvP, or even subpar. I can and will admit I suck horribly at most everything I attempt as far as PvP. But at least in other games I was able to hold my own to an extent. This is just...frustrating, not fun at all, and wholly not worth it anymore.

ESO post 1.6 is actually the most balanced version IMO since launch. A multitude of play styles and build types are possible. Will some be more effective then others ? Definitely yes, but this is the nature of MMOs, certain builds will be more useful in specific situations. I think the most important thing for you to focus on is finding synergy with your play style and gear. I would also suggest looking up some sorc guides, I know you said you don't like cookie cutter builds but just because you see someone's build doesn't mean you have copy it exactly you can change it up a bit and put your own spin on it. The fact that we have many skills available but are only able to bring a handful of them into battle is where the strategy comes into play, if everyone has everything available to them at all time everyone would be the same, even then I am sure superior builds would surface. So hang in there and work on your build and gear, if your ever feeling down in cyrodil just thrown down a fire ballista and watch people melt

If you are still level 1--50 you should try PvP'ing on the NON-VETERAN campaign. I was doing the same thing as you for a while, playing on the main PvP campaign and getting destroyed by VR14's constantly.

Then I switched campaigns and finally felt useful, wasn't dying as much, could actually kill people, and had a MUUUUCH better experience!

Well it's not "great" as I said earlier. slot 1 is restoring twilight, though I never use this much in pvp, so I either use surge or daedric mines but daedric mines is not good unless you are melee anyway so... surge is mostly what i use. Slot 2 is Hardened Ward, slot 3 is Force Shock, slot 4 is Degeneration, again mainly used it in PvE but I have nothing else really to replace it at the moment, slot 5 is Liquid Lightning.

I admit I dont' have most of the skills I had prior to Tamriel Unlimited and being issued a free respec. Used to have shards before. I was mainly testing new abilities as well as trying to level up stormcalling. Ironically enough PvE wise my build, even not the greatest, works wonderfully in PvE. I'm kind of stuck though as I don't have enough money to respec into some of the thigns I had prior, I tend to use alot of skill points towards all the crafting so I need to build up more skillpoints so I can get things like the imprisoning runes and such. I haven't tried most skills out either so I have a hard time figuring out what is best to use in what situation. Imprisoning Rune speaks for itself, but the

the other ability I wanted to try was Encase. Still this is all meaningless if I am just 1 shot anyway. I can TRY annulment and have double shields but, I don't know if it's wise to ditch slot one for a second shield if something else can be used like encase or imprisoning rune.

Most fights I get into are only with 2-3 people, if I have more than 1 person attacking me I'm dead without so much as me being able to do anything. As for BE I don't even have it yet. Thats why I put points into stormcalling I never leveled it properly and Im only at level 37 so. This isn't so much about skill rotation or positioning, it's mostly being unable to tank ANYTHING.

Tired of the lag and what appears to be ZOS having no idea how to fix it.

Knowing how and being able to are two different things. These guys are professional game developers. They don't work at Best Buy, they don't build cars on an assembly line at Ford, they make games. You can bet your ass they know how to do it, the constraint is the ability to do it. Be it time, money, technology, or human resource limited, it's most certainly not "oh they don't know how.". It's all they effin' do, day in day out, year after year. If they don't know how to optimise a server architecture, they don't work on server architecture.

Be angry if you want to be angry, hell I'm jaded as *** myself, but don't get it twisted. They know how, just like you'd expect an engine mechanic to know how to tune your car, but that engine mechanic might just not have the time, tech, number of people they require, and/or the money to hire on more people to be able to. Knowledge ≠ Ability.

Even if they know how to do it, the fact is the game was WAY more stable in BETA than it is now I am more than inclined to complain and voice a concern. The lag issues are getting progressively worse and it's now bleeding outside of pvp into pve. While it does play a huge part in my frustration with pvp as it is currently, there is more to my frustration than just the lag.
Agreed. You are completely justified in both being pissed off and voicing that you are in fact pissed off. I'm just pointing out the elephant in the room: ZOS is composed of trained professionals.

I don't presume to know the game of football better than Payton Manning, but when he screws up, I don't presume it's because he doesn't know how to throw a football. I'm actually more pissed because I know he knows vastly more intimately than I do that he just *** up.

Pros in a competative industry teaming and boiling over with remarkable talent don't get to be ignorant. An ignorant professional in that industry is very quickly labeled "unemployed".

In my opinion you should start with a cookie cutter build and then feel your way. It's much easier to pin point what you're exactly missing when you already have a mold.

You mean all those players that beta-tested unfinished product for past year and payed for doing so? I guess they're not ZOS, but that's just me...
