Thinking of returning. A few questions

Hi everyone,

When the game first got released I played for a bit. A while ago I read the game has gone free to play and I'm now thinking of returning.

Back then I did level a class up but if I do return I'm going to level a new class so that I can experience the game from the beginning.

On my first character I think there were so extra item's I was granted. I can't remember what they were. Maybe the map pictures for hints to find the treasure. Will these items be carried over if I start a new class? Or will they be lost?

I'm not sure which class to play. I enjoy playing a ranged character or one with a pet.

Also, does the game still require a large amount of hard drive space to install on Windows?

Any advice would be great!

Many thanks

Your vanity items such as pets or mounts, will be available for all your characters in the new account wide "mount & pet" tab. As for the treasure cards, no they will not carry over and "respawn" again in your mailbox.

I play a Pet Sorceress and have a lot of fun with her.

HD space is about 50-60 GB.

It sounds like you may have purchased the explorer edition with the maps? If so, the maps are destroyed when you find the treasure, but the map can be used by an character you create. So if you have four maps (there are more I know) and you use two of them with one character, you can use the other two with another.

I've played everything but a sorcerer and enjoyed it.

And, no, the game hasn't gotten any smaller. :)

    Many thanks Audigy,

Looks like I'm going to have to make some HD drive space!

I think that's the class I played last time and did enjoy playing him.

TESO has become Buy-to-Play; the difference with F2P is that everyone still has to buy the game before being able to play. So it's not free.

    Now to answer your questions:
For me every new toon I create receive some goodies after the intro/tutorial story, so I expect to occur for you.

TESO uses 42GB on my harddrive... it's up to you to decide if that's a large amount!

For your class choice... every class can use a bow; every class has short range and long range attacks. However only the sorcerer class is the only one using a few minions (demons), no class has animal combat pets. Everyone can have harmless funny pets following them around though!.

Hope these answers will aid you in deciding to return!

Yeah, as @Audigy and @IrishGirlGamer say, all of the extra items you had from whichever edition you bought (it was different items for the Explorer Pack and for the Imperial Edition) will be available for your new character, as long as you didn't delete them on your old character.

Some (pets and horses) are now in your "collections" and available to any and all characters you have.

Others (maps, pledge of Mara, etc) are inventory items, and to transfer them from your old character to your new character, you'll have to put them in your bank using your old character, then withdraw them using your new character.

And for the size of the game, it's definitely not smaller. It's probably somewhat bigger now. If hard drive space is a problem for you, though, you can install and play it on an external hard drive. I did this for my EU server installation rather than fill up my SSD, and it runs fine.

Thanks to everyone for the advice and speedy replies.

So can I use the maps on a new class when I create one? I did leave some of the unused maps in my bank. I'm sure I'll find out once I start playing again.

I've been watching some gameplay videos with the game on maximum settings and it looked amazing. The detail looked really good.

One thing you might want to consider is that the main game hasn't changed too much. So if you have 1 char and you got that char to vet 1, you still have the other two alliances to play with that char. Might be worth while doing that instead of starting from lvl 1.

That way you also get to accumulate champion points that will make lvling a new char easier later.

    Reverse Order:

You need a little less than 40GB to install the game, double that if you install the PTS (Test Server Copy)

Sorcerers are great fun, more so than they have been in a long time. I recently dusted off my Sorcerer that was parked at a crafting hub for 3 months and am really enjoying her Pet Bar. The main difference now is, if your Magic Based, go all in on Magic, all attributes into Magic, or at least 80% of them, and then use Armor Glyphs to give you even more Magic. Same with Stamina, if you go that route. Most skills now have a Stamina or Magic based Morph to choose from, so pay attention come Morph time.

However all classes are fun to play, with the Night Blade being the more difficult one to master, Templar being easiest, and Sorcerer and Dragon Knight being in the middle.

As for the Maps, you can buy the same pack in the Crown Store. Or, just play the game, you will get the maps as you play. I threw out the ones I got from my Explorer Pack as they were taking up Bag Space and most of the maps were for zones I would not get to until I was in the VR Ranks, or rolled into a another Alliance. The Maps you get as you go along at least match the zone you get them in.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Yes if they are unused then you can use them on your new char. As mentioned by @UrQuan , those in your bank can be used by any new char. They work only once, but when you use them is totally up to you. We just don't get cards for every char we do, only the first one did.

I've currently got 63 GB free and the launcher said I didn't have enough space. I'm going to have to make some space I guess!

That'll be because the installation process requires more space than the final installed game does - as files are downloaded and then applied it temporarily uses more space on your HD.

There are some hidden Windows space hogs that you can tweak to recover a ton of space.

    1. Temp Inet Files, either move the cache off your C Drive, or make it smaller, 100 MB should be enough for anyone
    2. Recycle Bin, this is not as bad as it was, but make the space smaller
    3. This is the big one, System Restore. No, you are keeping this on, but you can set the amount of HDD space it reserves for Restore Points from 12% of your drive to like 2% or less of your drive. Note, you will want to Defrag after making this change, SR makes a mess of your HDD. Unless you have an SSD, then just make the change.
    4. Move your Temp files directories to another drive if you have one.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

.. and a defrag on a reasonably full HDD will recover a lot of space waisted with part used areas where file parts dont use the whole space.
