My thoughts on alliance war

I'm just not feeling it, mainly due to pretty much every server has a claim, Chillrend... DC buff server. Azura Star.... AD buff server. etc etc.
I'm on Azura Star right now, and I feel like an idiot, because its like my alliance barely cares to do good on that server and we just let AD hold the scrolls all day.

This buff server idea I think is bad for the game, they need to get rid of it, and someway I was thinking is like GW2 system. Theres 4 maps for each WvW (3 opposing teams, 4 maps... They have like 16 servers so theres like 7 tiers of WvW) But I was just thinking just 1 tier because theres no servers and just an alliance battle. 4 maps all linked together, you have 3 maps catering to each alliance making them dominant on it, and the fourth map is equal ground for everyone.
As for buffs, just distribute them, make a random switch weekly, or you could just make them stack, whatever.

I would also, get rid of this "home" and "guest", it makes no sense at all. Currently, if your not a newb, YOU know if your AD you dont home anywhere else but Azura Star. If your not a newb, you KNOW if your DC you dont home anywhere but Chillrend. You only home the buff server, unless you dont like having buffs. Because I'm on Azura Star, and I'm a newb, AD has the buffs pretty much 24/7, no one on DC really even cares either.

Thats why I'd like to suggest something like this and get rid of "home", make it equal for everyone. You dont have Chim scroll, NOBODY has it either on your alliance. You want the Chim scroll you gotta work with everyone from your alliance. Currently I just dont feel any connection with my alliance playing in an alliance war. I dont feel like I'm fighting for my alliance either. Like I'm a newb, I'm on Azura Star, pretty much pointless to try and rally people on DC to come to Azura Star and get buffs back on a DC buff server, when everyone knows you just home Chillrend and you get buffs.

I'm just not feeling like I'm fighting for anything, theres no point system or leaderboard like overall alliance leaderboard, to make you feel like your actually contributing for your alliance and bragging rights saying "ohh ya DC, we #1".

--- To be really honest, this game would be perfect if it was just open world WvW, rather than static WvW. As in the PvE content in the game is WvW. Open world WvW, also means open world PvP. I mean the game is perfectly laid out, I just dont get why they didnt implement open world WvW. ***NO OTHER GAME HAS Open World WvW.***

A game like GW2, could not easily implement an Open World WvW, because its server based, but this game... *shakes head*, in such a perfect position to do so. Would make the game 10 times more fun too, because open world PvP is fun on games like EQ and I assume WoW (never played), but imagine... Open World, World vs World (Alliance vs Alliance), taking ACTUAL cities. Lemme tell ya, playing Open World PvP on EQ, Sullon Zek was the best PvP server, 3 teams just like this game, you couldnt take cities, but it was hella fun.

---Last thing, I think if they implemented the "Arena" in this game, like the Arena in Oblivion, it would be fun as well. Like 5v5, 1v1, etc. (small scale teams).
Things these days, are esports. If this game implemented Arena and had a "fair" type of mode, like everyone is V14, everyone gets such and such points to spend, all weapons and gear is the same, and a leaderboard. It could go somewhere.

These are my thoughts, I'm just not a fan of buff servers, and "oooh you newb, why didnt you pick Chillrend, Azura Star, we dont play on that, Chillrend is our buff server" type of alliance war. I mean, dont get me wrong, the WvW is fun, but only when I guest to where my alliance actually plays on, or when I guest on a server that I'm suppose to be on... Like I'm lvl 14, wtf why you give me option to play on 30 day V14 *** newbs server. I'd rather be forced to non veteran, I'm a friggin newb, I didnt know what a veteran was when I picked too. I bought the game hardcopy, the booklet 4 pages, cover, inside, inside, back cover. Nothing explaining alliance war, nothing explaining how you get points, point ticks, what a veteran is, etc etc etc. most people dont even read the booklet either and get right into the game too. I didnt play in beta, I have no idea what V1 V14 the difference between them is, my guess would be one has more points?

So this is just my perspective, with EQ and GW2 background and playing with DC alliance on Azura Star as a lvl 14 DK (went healer because I cant do any damage to anyone... pretty sure DKs are last class to heal too, lol) and guesting on non veteran server.

Blackwater blade is the best campaign right now. It has the balance and lack of lag thornblade cant even come close to.

but anyway, lets get to the point.

Buff servers were never an "idea" of ZOS. they just happened because ZOS does not have the guts to end them. Factions hold "buff servers" for PvE trial runs and for advantages in other PvP campaigns(though I think the buffs in other campaigns part was removed) if ZOS were to just remove PvP buffs in PvE It could very well drastically reduce buff servers.

You can also organize some guilds and try to liberate the buff servers. Haderus was liberated for a short time, and for a time it was great to play in, but now AD has it back, and some AD emp has been reigning for 20 days straight.

the thing PvP severely lacks right now, in my opinion, is balance. It is all about stacking/spamming damage shields and trying to get super high burst damage. No real strategy to it, just spam and burst. due to the new crazy high damage numbers, this has become the new PvP meta.

Open world PvP would be interesting; I support it. Would have to find a way to deal with VR14 NBs ganking level 5s in the starter zones though, because I guaranteethat people would do that.

and just to say it, I do not home on buff servers:) I am EP, and I have not once homed on an EP buff server. when Bow of shadows(you wont know what it is, its a long removed PvP campaign) became an EP buff server; I immediately homed to another campaign. Buffs be danged. you are not the only one who refuses to home on buff servers:)

No it's perfect . If there was anything wrong people would leave . I see hundred of people playing every night . Especially EP . They know the games perfect . They support it the most and wait in line to play .

That stacking and doing high burst kind of sounds like zerging in GW2, pretty much on big servers, everyone would just follow the zerg, no strategy at all besides whoever is leading the zerg, and if anyone is in teamspeak to be a lot more efficient zerg.

I haven't played that long so I cant really say much, but what about casual guilds, looking at my guild I have 50 members on Azura Star, 100 members on thornblade, 300 members on chillrend, 36 haderus, and 50 on non veteran server.
Like that kind of hurts the guild if you ask me, because say I become friends with a guildie on PvE and than we decide to play cyrodil, oops I'm on Azura Star and hes on Chillrend, how is this going to work? If he plays Azura Star he doesn't get points to his personal leaderboard, if I play Chillrend I don't get points to my personal leaderboard.

I just don't like this Home and Guest, I'm in DC alliance, whats the whole big deal about this home and guest? Just make it 1.
Maybe to reduce servers due to high population, make it like a triangle type battlefield, each alliance has its own battlefield, and have the fourth be the center. Make people have a little camps if they from DC but choose to play on EP battlefield.

Kinda like Skyrim you know, how the imperials or whatever had there little camps. Makes more sense than having 4 servers, and people just make claims like "We claim Chillrend as DC buff server, all you other guys, pick your own buff server and we go easy on you and you go easy on us" type of deal.

But ya zerging, doubt they can do much, GW2 couldn't figure out a solution, its just common sense people like to stack with others because they feel more safe, only few people go solo and in parties.
I'm a newb, you wont find me soloing or hanging out with 1 or 2 people, I want to be inside a big group, I know I'm bad, I just started lol.

There should be an alliance leaderboard too, to show whose winning the fights and whose the best. Make people feel they contribute to there alliance. Personal leaderboard is ok, but there should be a main alliance type leaderboard, server leaderboard.

I agree with the OP there is no point to home and guest campaigns anymore. I think there should be only home campaigns. Stop this nonsense of buff servers and Thorn being the only competitive server.

Who have you actually talked to about this? Because there ain't no PvPer worth a damn that's gonna set their home to a buff server. I'm AD, and I home on Chillrend. Blue might run the show from 9am to 2pm Eastern most days (not always), but the rest of the time, the map is fair game. I'll go wherever I get into the most fun fights; until a month or so ago, my home was Thornblade. Buff servers are for people who enjoy Trials more than they enjoy Cyrodiil, AKA newbs to PvP. I have yet to meet a single exception to this rule, man.

The next time someone acts like it's a rookie move to home anywhere but a buff server, you call them a frakkin' casual, and continue on with your day, enjoying the quiet satisfaction that results from earning your own damn rewards.

Personally my biggest gripe is people who get Emp on a buff server and then act big and pretend they know how to PvP. Oooh a corporal Emperor.
