Returning player here. Got ESO a few weeks after launch but only played it for 2 months. Now that it has been updated and I read it has improved and I don't have to pay a monthly fee no more I want to try it again. I am curious though what are people playing now and why. I am not sure if I want to retry playing a mage like character again or try something different.

Going to Youtube to see how different characters play and look. Thing is, watching what people play most times don't explain why they like it.

So what do you play and why?

Also what is fun to play for you even though it's not a "strong powerful" build.
Not my quote but I love this saying

Lets see. I have a Night Blade, a Dragon Knight, a Sorcerer and a Templar. They are all fun to play and all require a different approach to the game.

So, roll what you want and have fun with it.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Started with sorcerer, my main is vr14. Always enjoy magic based game play, hence sorcerer. Also have a second sorc at vr7.
Now working on a dragon knight, got myself to level 19. Hopefully this time I will not delete my dragon knight. Found the game play uninteresting in the past. This time I'm determined to get through to veteran ranks. Also have a level 21 Templar. Taking a fair amount of time to level the Templar because I'm treading through all the same quests again for the umpteenth time.
Also have a level 9 nightblade. Highly unlikely to attempt anymore game play with the nb until my other characters hit max level.

I am playing with my second high elf because I wanted to see the CP system in action from the bottom, but I have a vet Altimer.

Why do I play? I came back as most people have to see the changes and if this is worth while. I can say that some things work smoother, and I do feel better about the sorc class with the CP system, but that said, it's still the same game. Not much in the way of content, and broken systems that shouldn't be (the lfg tool) at this point in the game's life. I'm really just biding my time. I do love the community but that's just not enough.

Well I wanted an archer, my first attempt was with a DK, she is now a mule. I tried a Templar Archer but her build (pre-veteran nerf) while fun solo, was not as useful grouping as she could be, she became a full time healer V14.

My magicka-non pet sorc became my main v14, but I do not like the options the last update left me with, so I'm building a new main...now v2 stam Templar bow/dw. This time around, understanding the game more I really, REALLY love playing this one. (minus Templar bugs)

I have a 20 odd DK Firemage, shelfed. Not sure what to do about that one. A second V1 sorc made for dual play with my husband, but she's a diff faction than my guild so she just makes clothes. A 30 odd NB I just didn't like and can't delete bc my 6 year designed her lol. And lastly, a V1 DK Tank, parked for now until the new system is leveled out more and I can dedicate the time to figuring her out in this new world.

Really, all I ever wanted to be was pew-pew with my bow. I was sad a class wasn't built with a hunter style in mind. But like I said, I have found my happy place with my Templar take 2.....it only took a year and multiple tries :D we won't even mention those deleted....

Play, try, test, play more. You will find your happy place too!
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

I play a dual-wield Khajiit templar because it's most similar to the build I normally use in TES games, which is a modified version of my standard RPG character (who undergoes slight adaptations with each game).

Basically I wanted to primarily use bladed melee weapons, but with destruction magic as a back-up for when simply stabbing things isn't enough and restoration for when they're doing more damage than I am. Originally I was going to be a nightblade, but I realised they were lacking the magic element so I switched to templar, which is pretty much perfect.

As for why I play that, it's because I enjoy it. It's probably not an optimal build (definitely wasn't in Morrowind or Oblivion, or even Skyrim after they scrapped the emphasis on grouping skills under magic, stealth or strength) but it allows me to do everything I want and therefore have fun in combat, without that the game would get very dull very quickly.

Main is Nord Sorc, because I have always rolled a Nord main in any TES game. Sorc because it can summon minions whereas no other class can.

Primary alt is nightblade, because I have a thing going with him. Orc nightblade in the Ebonheart Pact, robs people and places because it fits the thief theme I have going for him.

I also have 4 bank alts because that's seriously how many I need. One for researchables, one for provisioning stuff, one for herbs and runes, one for crafting prof mats... And I'm considering a fifth for additional crafting prof material storage.

I Play a class that exists in every video game known as:

    ¨Casual Noob Master¨

It is unique in its kind as no matter which way you create your character, you get always the same performance.

Not being tied to variations in performance, this gives immense freedom to explore the game and its contents and always leaves you with the feeling that there is much more to achieve.

I've got 4 characters, one from each class, and all at different levels:

    Main: VR14 Templar tank/healer
    VR5 Dragonknight DPS (stamina build)
Lvl 30 Nightblade DPS (stamina build)
    Lvl 10 Sorcerer DPS

Each is fun for different reasons, and every time I login to each of them I'm reminded of why they're great.

The Templar is probably my favorite because she's super survivable (I joke that she's invincible) and it's really fun to push the boundaries of what a single character can do. Who doesn't want a character that can kill almost anything alone?

My DK, with 2H and the right sets on (I use Hunding's Rage and Ashen Grip), can tear through enemies like they aren't even there. Utterly, utterly, fun to play! I can't wait to be V14 with this one.

I started the NB to be my thief with the Justice System but ended up loving the combat style. I use dual wield and bow, full medium armor, sneaking everywhere. Even at that low level, with no crafted sets, no boosts to weapon damage and crits, things melt away so fast I'm often times still trying to attack, even though everything has already died.

The sorcerer is my least favorite, but I know a lot of people love it. She's very low level, and I actually enjoyed pairing the long range class abilities with a bow on PTS. Probably will give that a try on live. Honestly, I've been having so much fun with the other chars, that I haven't had time to level the Sorc.

I have played my templar healer from the start and couldn't imagine playing anything else! I love my sun/light themed altmer (even her skin and hair is golden) and often use the Golden Saint costume. I chose templar because I knew I wanted to be a healer and the more healing spells to choose the better. Altmer I picked up for her looks and racials, which fit well for a magicka based character.

Playing any class? sure. Playing every class however can be difficult.

Mainly because it would take a lot of time. On the surface ESO isn't so bad because it's only got 4, but I've already got 2 templars and they play very differently - one is a DPS dual-wielder and the other is (going to be) a staff healer. Playing every possible class/weapon combo would take a huge amount of time.

But also to me the benefit of RPGs having multiple classes is choice. Not everyone is going to enjoy the same combat style. In other genres if you don't like the way combat is done your only choices are to put up with it or play a different game. This way it's much more likely everyone will be able to find something they enjoy.

I have 6 characters which I play regularly, along with 6 more which are for storage (2 accounts total). I also have 3 EU characters for when I need a TES itch scratched during a particularly long maintenance. I enjoy all of them, and will eventually have at least 2 of each class maxed out.

I believe you need to play each class at least until level 20 to get a feel for it, and you really don't have the chance to experience everything a class has to offer until you are close to VR1 depending on how diversified you are with your skill points (how many Weapon and Armor types you try, do you invest in all 3 Class Skill lines, how many Guild or World Skill lines you do etc...). The good news is that the game doesn't cost you monthly unless you want it to, so you have all the time in the world to try different things out. ;)

I've tried different builds, but I always end up playing as a templar healer. I enjoy healing because I have to control many things at once and react quickly - keeping my team-mates buffed and nice, sometimes saving them from doom, controlling my mana by potions, clever use of skills (well I do make mistakes) and by hitting enemies with heavy attacks. And on top of that all, avoiding red

I've been considering to try out a tank build, because I have many ideas about tanking from my dungeon experiences.

I tried a nightblade dps build once, I used a destro staff and it was fun - closing up on enemies and doing lots of damage from stealth, then suddenly knocking them back with my destro staff and showering them with fire and stuff. It was fun but my build was not too sustainable (well I have less experience with dps builds).

    ----

After messing around with sorcerer builds in beta, I returned in May and have been playing as a healer ever since - different races, different factions, different servers.

Now considering looking into less traditional healer builds after I've finished with my current character (finished = getting to a desired high level after trying (and completing) almost everything there is at that time content-wise).

    Glass cannon stamina nightblade.

I like the challenge of being so vulnerable, and I like the high stamina that allows me to move around the battle with ease. At first the character kind of sucked, which wasn't that bad because I learned a lot(died a lot), but since the latest updates, man oh man does my dps save me now. I feel like the tables have turned in pvp and the people I would run away from in the past are now desperately trying to avoid my dps. No heals, no shield, no solo tactics, just all group, all damage, all sorts of enjoyment. Dual wield and Bow, spam those light bow attacks for maximum stamina, crit is 72%, love that crit.

I have played the other 3 classes and have them over veteran ranks now, but I still enjoy the nightblade the most. There's something fun about knowing that everybody out there can potentially kill me, it keeps me on my toes.

why? I just like playing that type of character. Big bad-ass with a big bad-ass weapon.

I'll start by saying I don't play "classes" or "races" I play characters. But this reminds me of one of my characters. I play Mol gro Durga (son of Durga for those not up on Orsimer [sp - too bad, I've seen it too many ways] naming conventions). Mol died in the battle where the Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse of the Order of the Dragon was lost - that was the first time he went to Cold Harbor. He is a sorc whose weapon of choice is 2-handed sword. His three most used spells are crystal shard, bound armor and the aegis version of the lightning garb.

Alert players will note that there is no such thing as the "Nibenay Valley Chapterhous" of anything, since there is a great big Dolmen there now.

During Mol's first escape from Cold Harbor (courtesy of Lyris and some crazy moth dude), he left behind his friend and second, Alvard Stower (yes, DC players will know that family name). The second time he went to Cold Harbor - he insisted on rescuing his second. And was almost lost there ... despair being a much worse danger than any physical torment.

He was "saved" by the no-nonsense exhortations of a Breton Templar named Fianna Kingsley. To whom he is absolutely devoted. She is now his second (it is unlikely that Alvard will ever fully recover), and his beloved.

And the main reason why he uses a Frost Glyph on his weapons is because she likes running up to the frosty statues and poking them to make them fall apart.

Well, my main character is Leskandera, my dunmer nightblade girl... born in humble beginnings, she lost her family and neraly her own life in the akaviri invasion, joined up with the pact military, got captured by the covenant, escaped and went through a lot of troubles to get home, by which time she had grown rather disillusionated with just about everything... just to have the whole getting sacrificed and waking up in a certain coldharbour prison cell throw yet another big ball of chaos into her life.
She's a classic rouge character, in leather armor and dual-wielding daggers (since those are easiest to carry while sneaking around in places she shouldn't be) who also hasn't forgotten her skills from her time as archer in the military, often falling back on them when she does mercenary work in cyrodil. She supports herself with bounty hunting, thievery and making food and potions (usually not in the same cauldron).

And my secondary character is Kelasendar, a slightly emo and somewhat sorcerous dunmer librarian boy who wanted nothing more then dig into a stack of books and have the rest of the world leave him alone to read all day in peace. of course, things didn't work out like he wanted either, and so he went from assistent under-librarian in the imperial city to prisoner in coldharbour.
He's basically a quiet goth boy sorceror, classic skirt and staff build, usually going for panically throwing spells in hopes the enemies will get crisped before they catch him while searching for all the overdue books from the mages guild... with a little healing to fix himself up if that doesn't work out quite as well as planned. In his spare time, he writes poems which he burns immidiately afterward since he's so ashamed of their low quality, and sometimes does a little enchanting and polishing of wood.

I also have a couple alts (meaning, six of them) but those are more made to test drive other classes, or for crafting support... so they only have a bare minimum of backstory. Though who knows, maybe someday I'll roleplay with them too...

I suppose I'm a lone wolf at heart. I tend to prefer melee warrior types with lots and lots of sustain (more so than dps). The Dragon Knight class, I think, is best suited for it, but I'm currently also leveling a templar and will be trying it out with a NB as well. It just strikes me that the latter have more redundancy in their class abilities. Mage type, whether a sorcerer or a staff based character doesn't really appeal to me.
