Is 42k horse better than 10k horse?

I know about the whole 1.6 patch apparently it's all based around your riding skill etc,

However why is there such a price difference in the horses? It can't be 32k more JUST for a skin?
Also if this was the case the horse descriptions also still allude to the expensive horses being better at a specific trait, eg speed or capacity...

I did speak to tech support post patch and they said the expensive horses start off with a slightly higher skill so they top off with a higher max once they get fully levelled.

If anyone can give a definitive, answer i.e they have some initial skill OR they are just cosmetic..

I'm half way saving up enough gold and don't want to blow the extra on just looks :)

    Hey there @metronom3,

The horses available in the stable will unlock the horse in your Collections tab, but will not add anything to your character's riding skill. These purchases are cosmetic.

I think the question is: Why did the prices remain the same once the horse-specific skills were removed?

Hi thanks for clearing that up, I haven't been able to find any sort of definitive answer :)

I guess I was reading too much into the descriptions of "muscular horse is strong and patient" / "bred for speed and agility"

Perhaps these could get updated to avoid confusion to noobs such as myself as the 10k "unremarkable" horse is apparently no less unremarkable than the rest :p

I'm assuming the 10k is also an account wide unlock?

Yeah, disregard their description that would lead you to believe they were beneficial. I created a ticket asking to be refunded and was told they would investigate it.... heard nothing back and I don't know what there is to investigate. I submitted the ticket minutes after the purchase.

That doesn't make sense, though. All the horses are account unlocks regardless of price. The prices were different because they gave you different starting skill amounts. Now, they do nothing different. So why keep the same prices?

They did lower the basic horse to 10k from 17K. My guess is they wanted at least one horse to be achievable for a new player early on, who spent no money on a crown store mount, but didn't want to basically give the rest of the styles away.

Since the rest will be unlocked account wide, their cost is actually spread across multiple characters making them cheaper overall for anyone with 2 or more characters. Also they compete with the other horse skins in the store.

    That's incorrect.

For the character that bought the $42K horse, the riding skills start out at 10% (IIRC) and you level up from there. Any other of your characters using that same horse must level up their skills from 1%.

Is that worth the big difference in cost? Probably not.

This was not the case for me. I purchased the "Carrying" mount and it did nothing.

The main question is, what is the max for this horse? Is it still 60? Perhaps the extra Gold you spend gives you a head start but you have the same upper limit.

No idea. I've only purchased one horse in the game, since I've found their utility somewhat limited outside of Cyrodil. The alt that purchased the horse (the speed horse) had 10% of capability at start with the patch. The other alts (all seven of them) had to start leveling the horse at 1%.

Since I bounce around with my eight characters, I have not come close to maximizing that horse.

Perhaps this is true if you purchased the mount prior to the patch. I purchased all of my mounts (ignoring the Imperial mount) post-update, and did not receive any boost to any skills on the characters that purchased said mounts.

However, before the update, the 42K horses did have 10 point boosts in certain skills, so perhaps those transferred to the characters who had purchased them, even though I think they weren't supposed to. I think now the flavor text is just that--flavor text. It should probably be updated to reflect the changes in the training system, however, to avoid confusion.

Which is rather wrong, considering most of us bought those premium horses over the 10k basic one just for those added bonuses.

We really ought to have them back.

This would defeat the purpose of the Riding Skill and crown store items. People would still never use less than perfect horses.

Your mounts are exactly as fast etc. as before, you lost nothing. Unless you bought the horses literally a day before the patch, which is unlikely given your activity in the game, you also used them long before they turned purely cosmetic. That's the time you paid for. Asking for a refund is like asking for a refund of your subscription for the last year because the game is B2P now.

You sure? Imagine the rage that would be produced by a) those that bought them expensive (in case the price gets lowered) or b) those who have not yet bought any (if the lower price will be increased).

Not worth the forum war, tbh. Leave as is, no one can complain. Well, many can as this thread shows, but with less salt than any other situation.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and for those that come up with the "but they had higher capability values before", that doesn't count as anything but convenience now that you can maximise all three with no difference by horse type.

I don't like the change about mount and related skills. Right now all the riding is based on rider skills but not on the mount we are using. For me it is wrong to the very base of the riding idea. There should be difference between mounts and the difference should be reflected by the maximum level of particular riding skills.
I understand that for account wide options it is easy just to make all skills maxed on 60 but then riding different mount my 60-60-60 (if maxed out) should change for e.g.: 80-60-60 in case of riding the tiger.

I like the idea of rider training, but the mounts should have their own stats that add to the riders skills. It's silly that the only difference is cosmetic. Also have your rider skill define what mount you can control, a Guar should be fast, but if your skill isn't up to the level to control it then the Guar should do random events like throw you off, or go in a direction the Guar wants to go. Want to dismount, not if your Guar is going full pelt straight to a river you know is full of slaughter fish....
