Do you experience this with Dark Talons?

I may be misunderstanding the mechanics of this ability, but I believe I am consistently encountering a bug with the DK Dark Talons ability. I will use this scenario as an example:

I play a heavy-armored, flame staff wielding dragon knight. A common strategy I employ in PvE involves wading in to a group of enemies laying down unstable wall of elements after flame breath and then using talons to root enemies in place until the six second explosion from unstable wall occurs.

I am often stymied by this occurrence though: Enemies encompassed by Talons "slide" across the battlefield and out of the range of my unstable wall! This is typically mages and rogues. Are these enemies meant to be immune to the rooting effect or is this a bug?

Thank you,
Roguish98

This happens to me all of the time. I seldom experienced it much prior to Update 6; but since then, it is a frequent occurrence. All sorts of mobs are moving around after I lock them in place with talons.

This has always happened with Spear Shards in templar so I don't think it is an ability bug since that is even a mez or a stun and they do that.

Something has been bugged more in ranged NPCs where their prority to create distance seems to outweigh all other mechanics in the game. See them backing up around rocks until they LOS themselves a lot as well.

Happens to me now all the time and it's extremely annoying.

When the talons range was reduced in some of the patches, ZoS broke the skill a little bit and sometimes you cannot root the enemies. It is like a small bug. I dont't believe that it will be fixed soon cause this happened in June or July.
    Because I can!

It also happens with encase; I throw down encase and then lay down unstable wall of elements, but sometimes it doesn't work., especially with vampires, fiends, and plague stricken NPC's. Them just keep moving towards me. It's worst now since update 1.6 and later.

No, it's a visual glitch, same as when they get knocked back while encased.

There's another version of this I have primarily seen in Cyrodiil. Someone will try to rez another individual and while the rez is pending or gets interrupted, the departed soul gets tethered to the person doing the rezzing and gets pulled along (plus signed corpse and all) like a kid with a rope tied to a sled...

Mount up to make it even more bizzare. "Hey, you've got something on your...oh, nevermind."

It's the visual system not keeping pace with the mechanics or order of operations of things.

One other example was a knockback that occurred to a DK friend I was running with. It was in a delve and the animation went slow enough that it looked like the NPC literally picked him up, turned him 90 degrees and threw him at me.

I was laughing so hard, we both almost died.

Root first, WoE second. You'll get more benefit from the DoT that way and less chance of slide off. Also, I think they changed it back, so now WoE lasts the original 2.5 seconds, vice the 6 they cranked it up to (which made no sense).

You were always able to ambush while rooted, if you can target someone.

Yeah, that one makes sense, though, since it's basically a teleport. I think the effect OP is referring to is like fighting on an air hockey table.

I've had this happen on my DK too. I've only recently started tanking dungeons and veteran dungeons with this character, so I'm not aware if it's a new issue or if it's got a history.

However, I will say that as a Sorcerer, I have always been able to teleport away while taloned. Talons is a soft CC, i.e. it doesn't preclude the use of skills. Some mobs do use teleporting skills (mages teleport to a spot and place an AoE, rogues use a teleporting knife attack, etc.). Maybe what you're seeing is those mobs using their teleport skills while taloned, which doesn't seem wrong to me.

What happens is the animation of 'backing up' from the mob using their skill overrides the root.

The nature of Soft CC is such that you can still attack and use skills. It just so happens that this skill the mob is using includes a 'backing up' animation that ignores the root.

There are player skills that have the same effect. Magnum Shot from the Bow Line moves you back even if you are rooted. Of course, as someone else mentioned, Bolt Escape can move you as well while rooted.

sometimes i get taloned by an npc at a resource and somehow get super speed and am able to run at top speeds for a few seconds (almost looks like speed hax). not sure if its the same thing but im pretty sure its a bug.

@Sphinx2318 , you have have misreceived a buff intended for an NPC. This happens (visually, at least) in much the same way as i have shot my group members or my automaton before...

Thank you all for the responses. Perhaps it is simply the animation that occurs when an enemy overrides the CC. I have been using it after fiery breath and unstable wall of elements so that the CC effect does not end before the damaging explosion occur from unstable wall. If I use talons to start, the CC would end and some rogue MOBs would backflip from the area of effect before the explosion triggered.
