Gift from shop

I am convincing my wife to play ESO and as such I want to be able to send her a gift from the item shop.

Will this ever become a thing? Option to gift.

Perhaps link accounts so that the linked account can use the same crowns so that I could gift her items?

I think this has been overlooked.

I would also like the "gift" option. At least off the website. I would have gifted a horse to a friend if this was an option.

I dont know about "linking" accounts though. There could be some kind of exploits with that one. But, Im all for some "gifts"!

They mentioned in another thread that there are no gifting options and no plans to introduce them but that you will be able to buy a physical 'crowns card' and then you could give that to someone if you wanted to.

I honestly feel they should rethink this gift thing. I know people might try to take advantage of this and try to make money off it and Id find that simply silly considering how easy it is now to earn gold.

This could work but RMT and scammers will ruin any thing positive about it. Just not worth it. If you want to gift someone buy them a prepaid visa and they can buy their own crowns.

Which is real backward logic. It's facilitating gifting in a really ponderous way, and once people start selling crown card codes for gold, which the undoubtedly will, they will be flooded with complaints about scamming.

To stop this they will likely enable gifting, so why go through all that, and just set gifting up now?

Most cash shops have the option to enter an account name to gift items and nobody seems up in arms over it. I suppose there are ways it could be taken advantage of on a small scale, but most likely the pros outweigh the cons and it would be a good money-maker for ZOS. In fact, I think that introducing a gift shop with special small goods (tokens of affection, gag gifts for friends, and other cosmetic fun) at a low cost would actually do rather well and I'd love to see something like that!

I love the idea of a gag gift..I can see it now...I give a "potion" to a friend. It says "Rejuvenating Life" on it...They drink it, and POOF, they are in a diaper and have a binky as a weapon for 5-10min...lol

I hope not It will be turned into gold buying. "gift" might as well be code word for gold buying.

Everyone needs a horse.. and at least one pet.. and.... Not gifting from the crown store is a very silly thing. They are not going to get a lot of money they would otherwise.

At least if people are purchasing crowns through the store for gifts then you can keep track of who is giving what to whom - making it easier to spot any suspsicious patterns or activity.

You won't get that knowledge about transactions if they step outside the system and gift with crown cards.

As soon as I knew there was going to be a shop I asked that they implement gifting. Each item, when you click to purchase, should have the option to "gift." Then you buy the item with your own crowns and put in the @userID of the recipient and they get a notice in their mail with either the item or being told it's in their collections tab. This is pretty much the only way I ever foresee myself buying more crowns than I am allotted due to my sub. It is a potential goldmine for ZOS. I can't believe they haven't realized this.

I really hope they take note of this thread. If there are some challenges in implementation, I understand. I just recommend getting it done before the holiday season!

Gifting crown shop items will inevitably allow people to sell/trade crowns for in game items, which is something zos don't want to allow.

I understand this argument but there is a relatively easy fix for this.

Perhaps we could only gift those we have had on our friends list for a certain amount of time.

Another idea to add would be something World of Warcraft has done. Recruit a friend. those we could recruit would automatically be able to receive gifts.

If it required people to be friends for a certain amount of time, then people would do it and wait the time to sell crowns. You underestimate how determined some people are to make these sort of trades. Crown sellers would create a network of "friends" to trade with.

Not sure how the recruit a friend deal works on WoW but I imagine it's something along the lines of, if a friend joins the game via your invitation, then you become friends with benefits? (no pun intended) I suppose that would work but it would be very limited and seems like it would be a lot of work to implement for such limited usability. I don't see any harm in it though.

Someone mentioned buying a physical Crown card and gifting that. Is that not a good enough solution for your situation?

I see the validity of a card. Does not work for everything that is ideal.

I have friends Ive never met in person. I have friends in game that I have never written a letter too or even know what they look like. Should I have to buy them cards?

People will always find a way to take advantage of others. Should it always ruin things for everyone else? There are ways to track people who are selling game store items.

I agree, it sucks that players determination to abuse anything they can, forces developers to make such restrictions, welcome to the internet. I wish that this was the only such restriction developers had to make but sadly it isn't, almost every element of the game has to take players determination to find a way to exploit it, into account.

There is an easy fix. Just like now, if you buy something from the store, open the mail and take the attachment. It, binds to that toon/account. So should any gift. If the person you gift an item to opens the mail, and takes the attachment, it binds..solved..:)

Solves what exactly? How does that stop me from selling/gifting you a Guar mount and you paying/gifting me back, I dunno, say 200k gold?

I guess, this reminds me of the "grey market"....There is always people out there that are going to ruin something for someone else...human nature?...Anyway, is ESO striving to be the only mmo on the market? They won't do it this way..Why do you think other mmo's allow/look over/try light determents? Because, people that play and pay, don't want all these limitations. And, sad to say, ESO is no exception. ESO is not a niche game, where they are only looking for just a few hundred thousand players. Thats why they went B2P in the first place. They would like there game to run for more years, and make a lot more money. Lets face it, they are not making this game just for the fun of it all, even though that has some to do with it from dev's. But, the CEO's are wanting profit. And, limiting there income, because of the black/grey market, isn't going to do it either. I do, and can, understand your point. But, there has to be a middle ground on this whole store thing, if they are wanting people to throw money at it.

They could add "features" to the store to eliminate some of the "gold farming" for cash.
1: Gifting has to be done through their website, not the ingame store.
2: The account gifting the item has to be activated for "x" amount of time.
3: If they received a gift from the ingame store, they must go to the website to get it.

This is just a few, and I know that Zen/ESO could come with with a few others. But, to just deny gifting, because its too much of a hassle for them to work out, is a bit on the "joke" side...They can figure it out...But, gifting, without a doubt, would only be a big plus for them, as well as us.

    Yep.

really need to be able to buy stuff on the shop for other people. some kind of "buy for myself" or "Buy for character/account" option.

I am not an economics expert and I don't know the exact reasoning behind their decision not to allow gifting; It may or may not be a financially sound decision. Maybe it's to encourage players to purchase their own crowns and use their existing crown on themselves.

Some players may only have crowns because they're paying for the subscription for the exp boosts or access to DLC and have no real interest in the items in the crown store. If they gift someone something from the crown store, instead of that other player buying crowns and getting it for themselves he now got one for free or traded gold for it, then they just lost a potential sale.

All I'm saying is, it works both ways. They may lose some sales because people can't gift but they'll probably gain some as well.
