Horse training discourages trying new builds. What else might work?

At the moment, given training for horse takes 180 days, I'm training all my toons in riding.
However, this is a strong disincentive to me to ever delete any of them and to try out new and different builds.
This seems a little counter to the stickiness lure that you get from investing that time in the horse training in the first place.

I can't see a good alternative that would still accomplish the same ends, though.
Hmm. Having the training be permanent per character slot might work...

The game only has four classes, make one of each and use the re-spec option to try a different builds (or wait for an update, seems like we get free respec'd all the time now).

I don't feel that a new character necessarily needs a maxed out horse from the get go. You will have one prefered stat anyway, so as you are leveling that character you will be leveling the riding skill at the same time.

Right now, most of my toons already have the stat I care most about (bag space) and I just have them train on the other stuff when I log on to them for hirelings and stuff, but it's not a big deal if I don't do it every day.

I had an idea to expand the mount system. Input would be Appreciated! :sunglasses:
    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/159507/advanced-mounts-overhaul-concept

With this concept it would take 720 days to max EVERYTHING.... you'd HAVE to try diversified builds to have your character have an effective mount in whatever traits you'd want.

What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
    That's right... Horse.

This is actually a good way for the company to make money in the store without giving anyone an unfair advantage over other players. When's the last time you heard of someone getting beat in a PVP battle or kicked from a trial group because their horse didn't have enough bag space?

    Three options:

    1. Give subscribers the perk of training twice per day
    2. Put something into the cash shop
    3. Make multiple trains per day and rising gold cost for faster progression (250, 500 and 1000)

    Hey I like number 3.

Yep it would be a great gold sink.

I think, with ESOs current model, option 2 is the most likely.

Idea #3 is great but #2 is more likely to happen. I remember they mentioned a possible Champion Point passive of being able to feed your horse double servings, but I guess that got dropped. The conspiracy theorist in me thinks they dropped that passive to boost future sales of the cash item that speeds horse training.

C'mon now its not that out there! Additionally they clearly nerfed grind XP to boost XP potion sales and they haven't added PvP to the justice system because the KGB and CIA collaborated on JFK's assassination.

Another idea is they can add back in the points from the purchased horses at the stable. When 1.6 launched it counted the points that came from the fast mount as points that I had trained in the conversion but now the horses for sale at the stable give no benefit other than looks but still cost 47k. Why not leave the bonuses on them and have them instantly apply those bonuses to the appropriate skill?

Yes but the riding skills that boost speed, stamina, and carrying capacity are unique to each character. Post-1.6 the different mounts only have aesthetic impact, the character riding skills are were the rubber (horseshoes) meets the road.
