Can you purchase crowns to give as a gift? How? Where?

Just what the title says - I've searched but can't find where you would buy them. Is there a code so that you can gift some to another person?

The only thing I can think of is buying one of the prepaid timecards and giving it to someone. Otherwise they've gone to great lengths to make Crowns non-transferable. They might issue physical Crown cards at some point in the future... but until then? No.

This would open the door to gold selling sites unless they could figure some doorstop but that would be like inventing the telephone or something up there.

Meet them in person and hand them a €20 bill. Problem solved. :p

you could do it like steam does, you can give it to a person>
So make it so you can give it to somebody who is on you're friendslist, select that person and the account selected gets the amount.

This would essentially open the door for real money transactions (rmt). Rmt is typically a BIG no-no for MMOs. You could pay real cash money for equipment or ingame services this way. You could pay someone to level your toon to vr14 for you and pay them in crowns for example.

We will have prepaid crown cards in retailers in the future, but not for at least a couple months. That might be the best option for gifting.

This is a bad decision. You should at least explore gifting.

For example I don't play Warframe anymore because it has become a horrible grind fest, but I have friends that do.
I still log on to my account in Warframe to buy my friends gifts and Platinum (the Pay currency).

It is a revenue stream that should be explored.

    Thanks for this.

ESO has no provision for gifting subscription time, either. Time cards were my preferred method.

Imagine this scenario. As a new player, I need some gold for bank slots, inventory slots, and a horse. I could pay someone, anyone, $15 worth of crowns for 50,000 ingame gold or whatever is considered a "good" rate. Talk about "pay to win".

EDIT: Yeah, I could also pay a real life friend actual cash money for the same thing, but my friend probably isn't going to screw me. If you open this up on a wider scale, people will likely get defrauded. Trying to resolve these situations is pretty difficult for ZOS or whoever is running the game in question. It's much easier to monitor and investigate transactions that happen strictly ingame.

It's really NOT the best option, especially not for you. Take a page from EA's book on this one thing. Every item in the shop, have an option to "give as gift." Once that option is selected the gifter has to know the account name of the person they are gifting the item to. They type that name in, spend their own crowns on it, and the person receiving the gift gets an in-game mail either with the gift attached or telling them where to find it in their collections tab. You will make an absolute KILLING by doing this and why you haven't already thought of it yourselves is completely beyond me. Take my money already! Sheesh!

I agree totally with this. I have quite a few friends who play this and it would be nice to be able to give gift of crowns to them for special occasions.

RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.

Sure. And then make the gifter check a box stating "I promise that this is a gift, willingly offered for no valuable consideration, whether in-game or outside the game. Honest."

Just FYI, I'd be willing to give up 10% of any crowns used to be able to buy crown gifts with crowns.

Wow! It never occurred to me that it would be used as a cheating mechanism! I just thought it would be a nice birthday gift or reward for someone I care about who loves the game. How sad...

Yes I could, but its easier to rationalize a 7 dollar purchase vs a 15 or 30 dollar one.

That's a good point.... I hope they offer gifting. it shouldn't be difficult to implement and it would bring in MUCH more money for ZOS.

Right now you would just have to send them some money through TransferWise (from the creators of PayPal [tm]) or PayPal -- The world's favorite way to pay (tm).

That has a different "flavor" than sending crowns. It's still not the same.

ZOS should offer specific gift packs that are in smaller quantities than are currently offered.

Perhaps crowns are just not the world's favorite currency ;p

I would like to have the option to buy something as a gift for friends from the Crown Store. Many other MMOs have that feature and it seems like an easy money maker for ESO.

    @JessicaFolsom

This used to be a thing in Everquest 2. People bought store cards, and sold the redemption codes in game for gold. It was good as it enabled people to get the crown equivalent and to buy subscription time for in game currency, but it was open to abuse and ultimately there were a lot of unsavoury characters who ripped people off resulting in many tickets open all the time about theft.

Then eq2 moved to enable gifting, and later added Krono, a purchase from the online SOE shop which resulted in an ingame item which could be sold on the broker for whatever price the seller decided on.

This made the process of gifting/paying for subs safe and enabled more people to spend cash on EQ2.
