I'm guessing Nord, simply because most people that have this game have played Skyrim and went with what they're familiar with. I'm a bosmer myself though, and have been ever since a stealth archer playstyle became viable in Morrowind (A spellsword was really the best in most situations in ES 1 and 2, archery was terrible in those games imo.)
Just by looking at my pvp achievements, I killed 100 dunmer and altmer pretty quickly. After tons of kills, I've still only killed 7 redguards and 10 orcs. Granted I am DC, so that is not a great indication. I see tons of altmer and dunmer though everywhere.
Worstluck - Breton Nightblade"Some of us refused to bow. We knew the old ways would lead us back to having a kingdom of our own."
―Madanach Elfluck - Dunmer Dragonknight "When I will walk the earth again, the Faithful among you shall receive your reward: to be set above all other mortals forever. As for the rest: the weak shall be winnowed: the timid shall be cast down: the mighty shall tremble at my feet and pray for pardon."
―Mehrunes Dagon Deadluck -Imperial Templar "Men are but flesh and blood. They know their doom, but not the hour"
―Uriel Septim
It really depends. The Power-gamers are going to go for Altmer though, I think, because of their High Magic. Though If you are going to be playing for Power reasons, I suspect Bretons are actually slightly better due to High Magic and Light Armour Affinity.
Personally, I've got more Imperial Alts in this game because I started with the Imperial Package. My favourite Race in all the ES games is always the Dunmer though. If there weren't Dunmer I'd go with Nord because I'm choosing the races for their elemental resistances.
Oooh look, lot's of Butterflies! Wait! Butterflies? Get out of here Sheo, stop bugging me!

I chose Imperial because they are decent all around. I think the races are balanced okay.
My sorc is a Breton but at times I wish I were Altmer instead. I made an Altmer Sorc and I will see how that goes for me.
I see a lot of instances where people are metagaming, and that influences character creation. If I know vampires and I want my character to be one, it behooves me to make a Dunmer, right? I should be Khajiit for Nightblade, or Bosmer? Of course I could be an Orc Sorcerer with a Bow, ESO lets you do that. I could be an Argonian Dragonknight Fire DPS Healer because ESO lets us do that, right?
I don't see one race dominating, but I see a lot of min/maxing and picking the race best suited for your class and skill lines.
I'd have to go with maybe Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500 or maybe NASCAR Coca Cola 600.
Foräois - Imperial Sorcerer of Ineptitude.
Widoch - Nord Dragon Knight of Ignorance.
Billy Bob - Dunmer Templar of Chicken and Noodles. Blades of Vengeance
Have always played Breton when I started with TES, from Morrowind to Skyrim. Tried other races but always fell back to Breton a Defensive Mage with high resistances. But I chose Templar in ESO because I loved the Restoration and Alteration Skill Line as a Mage in TES games. Cant wait for them to implement Spell Crafting.
it looks pretty equal to me but I play more imperial than anything else because I can make them look great in the creator and I like the stamina builds. That said I have 1 Bosmer, 2 Khajiit, 1 Dumner, 3 Imperials
I highly doubt my alliance war race slayer achievements are accurate in any way when it comes to race popularity, but it *seems* to think nord since I've killed more of them than any other race. So... I'll just vote nord...

My guess is it will be one of the human races. Generally in any fantasy game humans are more popular than non-humans, even when they're technically weaker (or more commonly generalists who can be any class but aren't the best choice for any of them). (I don't understand this personally, my thinking is I'm a human all day every day, in a fantasy game I'd rather be something else, but apparently more people like the familiarity.)
I think Breton and Nord are likely to be the most popular within that because Bretons are the obvious choice (within the humans) for a magicka build and Nord for fighters. I'd include Imperials but I think being exclusive to the Imperial edition will reduce the numbers.
This pretty much sums up my decision making process (if you replace Skyrim with Morrowind):

"Remember in this game we call life that no one said it's fair"
Dunmer cause Lore. There's no race whose lore actually captivated me more than this one in any fantasy universe.
As much as people say it's the most alien race, for me it's actually the one that feels closest to home
It may also be the dry wit and humour you see coming from them.
