Did the fix the "Singleplayer-Syndrome" ?

Hey people.
Me and my mates are considering getting back into ESO (we played at launch) however we got really disappointed by the way the game handled multiplayer.

To sum up the "singleplayer-syndrome"

*Quest: Free 3 slaves*
Player 1 frees the three slaves
Player 2 and 3 didn't get any quest progression.

It became a chore having to fight with my friends over the quests so we stopped playing.
Thanks for anyone able to shed some light onto the issue :)

You still have to do your quests, there is no piggybacking on the efforts of others.

Folks will get credit for completing a quest objective if in the same area and partied. Most objectives are not set to "kill x" monsters as well, most are set "kill named boss" or "hit set item", which will grant credit to the group. Quest sharing also helps group members work better together and phasing is typically done by the leader, so you can help someone on their quest to retake a town by setting them as the leader, even after you completed the quest.

Sorry I should've phrased it better.

I was merely asking if you as a party with your friends can do quests together without having to argue and combat over the quest objectives because the game doesn't recognise party-wide progression. (Atleast at launch)

For further evidence of this, fast forward in this guide video when I group up with another player and notice how the quest objectives will update when they are the one to interact with the crates.

You can also see some of the player kill quests update in Cyrodiil, so questing in groups has improved a lot.

nope, game is still not all that group friendly.

It's hit or miss. Some things progress party wide, Some things don't.

When's the last time you grouped with a buddy on a quest that you had to compete? Have a questline?

Several patches ago, but I'm not sure how far the implementation has gone so far. I've seen it with craglorn, where you can join in on the storyline quest based on the leader's progress. They have also changed up a lot of quests so they will follow the leader's progress. I need to check if they did it for all the low level quests though, but you'll notice that a lot of phasing areas now have doors/gates around them To assist with the different phased area cut offs.

Implementation is also wonky at times, if someone completed a quest for example they won't be allowed through a door, but set someone that hasn't completed it and everyone can go right in.

    It still doesn't.

ESO is by far the most grouping-hostile major MMO, at least in PvE.

It's basically thousands of solo players all running about. You can see other players, but unless you've done exactly the same quests they have, you'll be phased away from each other - grouped or not.
Grouping remains broken, and seriously doubt it will ever be fixed.

I find the game is much, much more fun solo from 1-50. The difficulty is already very low, and if you run it with other players, you will literally smash through everything. The very, very fun group content starts at Veteran rank- Trials, Vet Dungeons, Craglorn stuff. It'll take 100 hours to get to level 50. You and your friends should do this on your own time and then start enjoying endgame stuff together.

    Thanks for the response people.

It does disappoint me that a singleplayer game has to be ported to Multiplayer only to be done so shoddy that it brings any other game in the genre to shame.

We'll probably try to play together to the best of our ability or maybe just stick to dungeons at later levels.

So much old misinformation this thread. Grouping has improved dramatically and 95% of objectives are now shared. Jesus people have some current information before spewing garbage.

I generally do all quests either with a 2-party group (me and spouse) or a 4-party group (us and a couple we know in Oregon). Mostly the flags will tell you how things are going. For example there are times when we need 4 somethings and if we are standing close to "it", and one of us does "it" then both will see a 1/4 floating on the screen. There are other times when (for whatever reason) each of us has a distinct tag and has to do "the thing" (or things).

You just have to pay attention.

Also worth mentioning that anywhere OTHER than Cyrodiil, if you group up (like for a delve) and the lowest person is 4 or more levels lower than the rest, they will not get any experience. I think there is some sort of potential compensatory exception if the HP damage done by that person are on par - and if I recall right healing is 2:1, so it's best if the "lowbie" is a healer, and a really skilled one.

Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Yea. This thread is full of misinformation. A friend of mine recently decided to pick up the game so I made an alt to play with him and braced myself for the "travesty" I've heard so much about trying to quest in a group. I was surprised repeatedly to come back from a cigarette or bathroom break to find that my quest objectives were completed while I was away. It's been an absolute pleasure for the most part. Having to skip large swaths of quests to keep from out leveling content sucks, having to fight mobs 5+ levels higher than us get a fight to last more than 5 or 6 seconds also sucks. But the quest objectives needing to be completed by every single group member seemed be an almost non-existent problem.
They're called fingers but I've never seen em fing
