So if I "help" someone out who started a fight with mob(s)

While we are either on the same quest, or just passing through the same way, do I ruin the ex for that player? Been seeing a few post about stealing xp last few days. I just always assumed that it was ok to help out, and the xp was fairly shared equally, same if I am on a quest of my own and people come up and help me out. Do I ruin it for people? If so, I have to start play in a different way

Usually you don't steal xp. Only if more than 2 players are fighting the same enemy the amount of xp everyone gets is reduced and if you are more than 5 levels higher than the other player and do nearly all the damage, the other player won't get xp.

I wouldn't worry too much. If a player feels you're stealing his XP, he will send you an angry tell. If you dont get an angry tell, just assume that you help another person. Most people (myself included) like doing quests quick, and the more to kill the mobs, the quicker the quest is completed.

Yeah that's how I feel to, it's nice to just help someone out, and then continue with the quest. You notice very quick if people want to tag along and do the quest together but not as a group as well.

There really ought to be a keypress for "quick auto-group in local area" which sends an invite to everyone within a certain limited area around you. I mean, many times it's obvious that you're on the same quest as someone else, but nobody talks to anybody these days in MMOs, so the old way of engaging in conversation in /say and then roleplay lite is too clunky. Just an auto-invite to local area would make for a much more social experience all round (because once you're in the group and chat defaults to send to group, it's much easier to then hit enter and start engaging in convo).

Actually, is there such a thing, and I've just missed it?

If the other player is grinding multiple mobs, "helping" can totally destroy their magicka and ultimate for starting the next pull.

I would say the polite thing to do is toss a group invite or ask to be added to a group. ESO's fabled no-kill-steal game mechanics are a hard failure except for very narrow circumstances.

well there is when a high lvl vet player is running thru a level 7 dungeon and making it near impossible for low lvls to get the XP they went there for; but other than that, i would not worry too much.

If I run a toon much higher level than the quest (I would not just steal exp for the sake of it) I view it as helping the other player get the quest done faster. If I on the other hand am the lower player I think "Why ruin the fun for me OP so and so?". I know its hypocritical but what can you do? I use the situation as motivation to kill mobs faster on my end.

If their healthbar says they're in trouble, then zapping their opponent is OK. If they're running away from their opponent, then it's definitely OK. Otherwise, don't interfere in someone else's solo play. That's what Cyrodiil is for! :D

I see it's a lot of different opinions on this topic, guess it might be best to just solo, and only interfere it it seems like it's needed

You will not be be stealing XP unless you one-shot the mob. It's generally accepted that when inside a delve, it's group effort and you help each other out. It's only really a problem now in the early areas because they're crowded with new players and mobs go down in no time, so it might feel a little unsatisfying. In later zones when population thins out, I'm actually happy to come across another player and work together - veteran areas usually don't see many questers.

Overland mobs are 50/50. I usually leave people to their own fights unless I'm struggling. If you're a DK, do NOT Fiery Grip someone else's mobs right and left.
