Why cant Steam Users buy Crowns from the ESO Store. Updated!!!! with a win for Aussie Steam Users!!!

I'm sure this will affect those that live outside the US mainly but being from Australia and a Steam user to buy the 5500 Crown pack via the ESO store is $40AUD. Great I thought, here take my money but sadly no I don't qualify for this product. I am directed to buy my crowns through the Steam ESO dlc area which for the same pack is $39.99 US Dollar which exchanges to $51.50 Australian dollars. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! $11.50 more for the same pack.

Am I being punished for being a Steam user, this is garbage. If the ESO store had been in US dollar I would have bought as there is no difference but seeing that $40 AUD sitting there in the store is a kick in the guts and I cant purchase.

Hopefully this is something that will get fixed but until then my money stays in my wallet.

Rant Over :)

Shhh, be quiet! They already updated prices in other currencies to account for exchange rates, if you bring attention to this they'll increase the ESO store prices in AUD to match the exchange with the USD!

Steam needs to make money as well... They got a % of subs so I would assume they are getting a % of crowns.

But I should have a choice where I buy it from. Marvel Heroes is a Steam game yet I can buy from their store directly or via Steam they give me the choice. Here its nothing. If i didn't have the steam version I would fine and could purchase my $40 crown pack. Seriously to pay $11.50 more for the same thing ...... not happening.

Nope. Steam users (like me) bought their game on Steam and their sub on ESO site, I don't see why it would nor should be different with crowns.

Lol. People crying about the steam only pet, you know you can buy it in the crown store right.

I also agree completely with this thread. I'm also in Australia and just saw the price on Steam was USD and am rather annoyed cause I also saw the AUD on the ESO Store.

If I have to go through Steam then the ESO Store price should reflect the price Steam has or it's just not fair for anyone not from the USA who purchased the game through Steam.

You are aware that the only thing that is likely to happen is that they adjust the pricing on the ESO site so that it accounts for the true cost?

This is the reason why prices have been adjusted with the B2P launch, some currencies are worth less but y'know ZOS still wants to earn the $15 in the end.

I don't really see how you can complain that they missed converting the price just because you cannot buy it at the lower price..

Because if I didn't have a steam version of the game I could buy the crown pack now for $40AUD. For some reason because I do use Steam I have to pay $51.50 AUD for the same crown pack.

It's not about buying crowns at a lower price, it's about crown pricing being consistent across sources.

If the ESO Store is offering crowns in AUD at set prices then Steam should be matching those prices. But as it stands right now those who purchased the game through Steam and do not live in the USA are being punished for doing so.

As it stands right now it's just over $54.00.

This needs to be looked into and if the Steam prices are set in stone, then I want an option to purchase crowns via the ESO Store or via another option. I don't want to be punished for buying the game through Steam.

It's just two different platforms, Steam charges in USD so your bank gets to do the conversion while ZOS actually converts the prices themselves for their online store. It really isn't their responsibility to make sure your currency doesn't lose its value..

Most likely they have an agreement with Steam that all copies sold through Steam has to buy their "additional stuff/dlc/whatever" through Steam as well. So in the end all they could do "for you" would be to change it so they charge in USD in their shop which makes it more expensive for everyone as you get lousy conversion rates. Yay.

No thanks, I'm happy paying mine in local currency and it was your choice to buy from Steam who you'd probably know would charge you in USD (or in my case EUR) for everything regardless..

Yeah cause I could see in the future and I knew if I bought this game via the ESO shop I would be able to get my crowns for $40AUD. I have a ton of steam games and its my preferred digital platform for getting games. Just because I use Steam dosen't mean I should get locked out of buying DLC direct from the manufacturer. There are plenty of companies on STEAM that let you purchase their content via steam or via the developers store page.

Maybe you can use a proxy or VPN with an US ip address so you can pay with USD on Steam.

The Secret World is the same way. If you buy it through Steam, you have to buy cash shop stuff with your Steam Wallet. Only difference it seems is Funcom actually integrated the Steam Wallet into their cash shop, so you can shop on TSW site, but payment comes from your Wallet. Never seen anyone there complaining, so maybe having it integrated means you get the ESO price taken from Wallet ( because you'd be in the ESO cash shop, not Steam ), whereas not being integrated and having to get directly from Steam means, obviously, Steam price is deducted from Wallet.

In short, the Steam Wallet works just like PayPal or a Google Wallet, when it's integrated into the partners site.

Sounds like the billing and web teams need to do some work.

I've been muted since November 2017 because of the whiny crybabies on this forum and the liberal ZOS employees coddling them.

Looks like common sense has prevailed and the US pricing for Australian Steam Users to buy crowns via Steam has come down in price and in line with the pricing offered in the ESO store.

The 5500 crown pack which was $39.99 USD is now down to $30.95USD which is $40 AUD same as the ESO store.

The other packs are roughly on par and its good to see we aren't getting ripped off with our Australia Games Tax :)

Now time to spend dollars and get those mounts!!!!!

Common sense would actually be for the opposite to happen, so that the ESO store prices for Australians would be brought in line with US prices... Lucky for you ZOS decided to be generous instead of following common sense!

In the US then how much is the 5500 crown pack via the ESO store? For interests sake.
