At first I was expecting 1 or 2 runes to appear in my bag randomly, but to get a mail from your hireling, with 3 runes and a funny message, love it! That's the kind of detail that I appreciate, and helps getting me immersed.

How many different messages are there though? anyone knows?

    A lot.

    Also, each craft hireling has their own stories.

    Is it your first hireling? You're in for a treat. :) There's about a hundred messages from each hireling, then they leave your service and are replaced with new people. I didn't particularly care about Abnab and Ezdab, but I really enjoyed their successor Melina Cassel, both Clothing hirelings and the first Blacksmithing hireling.

    I found Aksel Rockbiter the (second?) blacksmith hireling to be stupid and annoying at first. But he was my favorite by the end of the letter chain! Judging by the name, he might be a goblin because I think I have seen Rockbiter goblin clans while doing daily PvE quests in Cyrodiil. The whole dim-witted but good-natured goblin thing really grew on me. The Khajiit woodworker hireling was great, too.

    Edit: The Khajiit woodworker was Pacrooti and someone already beat me to it in praise of Pacrooti-isms!

    Too bad you missed out on when the hireling's provided Gold Mats at a regular clip. I've only gotten one Kuta from my 5 enchanting hirelings since 1.6, and I got about 10 per week prior to 1.6

    Hirelings are great! I just find it weird that they email us. It would be like the prophet sending us an email "come quick vestige! I must speak with you!" we should get their messages in game through a courier service. The mail should be user to user only.
