I think it's over 70 gigabytes with the latest patch.

Mine is 41.6G for live server and 41.6G for PTS server.

So, you might make it depending on compression/temporary install space required.
...and don't install test server of course.

My client is currently 41.7 GB, however during the installation & patching process the game can take up far more space than that whilst it's decompressing files and moving them around. As a rule of thumb it's a good idea to ensure you have about 2x the amount of free space that a game will occupy once it's fully installed.

Steam uses this same rule of thumb with their downloads - if you've ever wondered why, when you download a game through Steam, it shows a disk space requirement that far exceeds the data you actually end up downloading, this is why... it's because they're automatically factoring in the additional space the game may need during the installation process.

41.7gb for the game its self. Double that if you decide to download the pts server as well. 64bg is enough free space for the game.

The pts servers does not automatically install while or after installing the game. PTS is a totally separate download you can choose to install.

So, because this has come up in this thread, I would like to remind everyone that 99% of players will NOT INSTALL THE PTS (Public Test Server). Don't worry about this. If you do nothing, you will not download the PTS, and it will not double your game size. The answer should be 41 Gigs, but it needs a bunch more when downloading and installing.

You only need 41.7 for the game itself. As stated above, PTS is a totally separate download you can choose to install at any time, if you desire.

41 gb to an Aussie = Almost a Months D/L Time, unless your on NBN or Cable with 500 gb - 2 tb plans. Just barely started the download and it's 2% after 2hrs now LuL, 1.6mbs is kinda slow for ADSL, hope to move into my new place soon with NBN 50mbs.

so what you are saying, phairdon is that while the game installs at the 41ish gigs, it need the space of the 80gigs free to do its unpacking and folding thing in your hdd drive and will download more than that 41ish gigs to do the stuff temporarily?

it just *feels* like its downloading all that stuff.?

im slightly relived but damn it ESO:TU cant you pack your junk properly? did you miss lable those boxes you keep moving about in my house?! (hdd) XD

It's nothing to do with ESO specifically, it's simple how large file downloads like this tend to work on PC.

Have you ever downloaded something from the internet that came in a ZIP file (or maybe RAR)? When you extract the files inside that ZIP it decompresses those files and copies them to another location on your harddrive - once this is done you've effectively got 2 copies of the same files on your harddrive, one that you just "unpacked" and the original copy inside the ZIP file. Until you actually delete the ZIP file you've got the same files taking up (almost) twice the space on your harddrive.

When a digital game downloads to your harddrive it is usually in a compressed state, which means at some point either during the download process or shortly after it the download manager has to decompress the files in order to create a playable game install. It's during this decompression process that the game files are present on your harddrive in two locations at the same time. Once everything is succesfully installed most downloaders will automatically clean up the compressed versions of the files that you downloaded, since they are no longer needed once the game files have been succesfully extracted.

Only needs 41.7gb. The PTS is a totally separate issue, which has nothing to with the game download.

If you've only got 64 gigs free and you can't clear up any extra space, you should really get a new hard drive. You can even get a cheap external HD if you need to. Storage is much less expensive these days than it used to be.

I'm downloading the game all over again as well. Have 96 gigs available but at the rate it's coming in I won't know if all's well until tomorrow morning. This is painfully slow.

yeah, its been a while since i had a game with this much luggage XD

have had this problem trying to explain to folks why their drives are reading as red and groaning under the strain. (when they dont keep enough space free for windows itself to shuffle things about and do its stuff.)

i tend to use the moving house comparison so they can sort of see the image in their minds.

First of all because i have only 64 gigs free i am not able to download the game and it is imposible ,there is just no other option ,it is 80 gigs or nothing.My disc maybe old but this is the only game that has such big *** download and they had pay and sub and all other stuff.In my opinion they suck big time

cant you move things like pictures and music temporarily to free up space? i know a lot of people have a large itunes library ect.
or check your download folder and temporary internet files for internet explorer (even if you no longer use it, if you havent told it to empty the temporarly internet files it might still have them left over) also your recycle bin a lot of people forget to empty that too.
is there no way of freeing up anymore space?

Not sure why you would need to download 80gb. Perhaps post this problem on the customer support, general help forum.
