Treasure Chest Placement Kudos

One of the things I really love while exploring "off the beaten path" has been finding treasure chests tucked away from casual eyes.

I especially love those treasure chests "mostly" submerged in watery areas so that only a portion of the top or edge pokes above the waterline.

Really adds to small thrills of discovery -- similar to the poor lost skeletal souls.

I completely agree. I've been playing for 17 months (counting Betas) and the thrill of discovery never gets old.

I love the treasure chests in ESO. You have one's you have to try to find with a map and ones you just stumble across. It really is one of my favorite aspects of the game.

love them don't love there loot it can hardly be called treasure. Its about the same loot that drops off your average mob but worse i've never received a purple or better item from chest but have from mobs. Noticed they seemed to have nerfed soul gems from them in future patch too so even less like treasure. They need to add better treasure items including recipes its already hard enough to find them without stealing.

Meh. Takes less than half the time killing a mob does, don't waste any potions, etc.

It's like spotting a 5 dollar bill in the bushes. Just a mildly pleasant little surprise.

We definitely wanted to give players an incentive for running off the beaten path! From Skyshards to interesting Locales to harvest nodes to treasure chests, we wanted to give folks something to discover each time that you travel around Tamriel. Our world builders were so very excited to build out neat little places that were great spots for treasure chests (and sometimes also great for the random scene of skeletons!) It was great fun to add these around the world!

Also, don’t forget that you can sink some Champion Points into The Shadow in order to unlock the Treasure Hunter perk.

I would consider Grand Soul Gems to be valuable. I frequently find them inside chests.

The loot is good for extra cash and a way to find green+ items that might have a trait you can 'learn' on your crafter (if you have one).

If Khenarthii's Roost is a VR zone for you, that place is just full of treasure chests and grand soul gems... It seems that the fleet that got wrecked along the shores was carrying a lot of chests that washed up.

Sometimes I wish addons didn't break this....hunting for skyshards and chest was fun...until the addons were available.

Shame on me for using them, but I like to PvP, and don't like to be at a disadvantage.

Hmm, the only addon for chests that I know of only shows you the locations of ones that you've previously discovered. I like that one, because in some zones I was already looking for treasure chests in spots where I remembered finding them previously anyway, so it's basically functioning like a notebook for me to help me remember those spots.

You just love finding vendor trash out in the middle of nowhere? Me too... Not really.

The nice things about chests are the soul gems, the XP (which is not a ton, but every bit is nice), and the boost to your legerdemain skill line. If you're not grabbing every chest you run across you're missing out on those and a bit of gold, along with a decent chance to get a blue drop for deconstruction.

I've always loved stumbling upon treasure chests. Aside from Fiord's set, I can't think of anything I've ever kept from a treasure chest, but I just like picking the locks, and it's nice you get xp for them (kind of like the Summoner or bandit ambush encounters, which I always stop for, even on my three VR 14 characters).

That being said, I know a lot of people who aren't into being a sneak thief and cat burglar. Perhaps it's a good idea to throw some of the Justice loot into chests for them, so they get a taste of the amazing lore tidbits of, say, the Mudcrab Claw I stole from somewhere: "He got my hand; I got his claw" Amazing!

I daresay some of the RPers who refuse to steal things would be overjoyed at this opportunity.

There are some treasure chests places in straight-up crazy places, like in Greenshade on ledges that are the third tier down from high up places that only those who truly try to jump up in amongst every seemingly impossible place to get to (and then way, way down suicidally dangerous places with naught but viperfish waters off the map below). Of the little "culvert" that you can slide about 100' feet down seemingly unsurvivable and midway down a mountainous cliff there's the most hidden treasure chest I can imagine - and a skeleton of someone who tried but failed to get to it! Amazing.

I do that too... And I always stop to light fires for people, etc even if I've already done it in that zone so it won't be helping me progress towards an achievement.
