I thought that the Crown Store mounts are just skins for existing horses. They have no new stats.

No. Your riding skill determines your speed. Your horse is just a skin.

As of Update 6 mounts no longer have stats of their own, they just function as skins you can select in your Collectibles panel and all of the stats are tied to your (character-specific) riding skill.

just a skin no matter how anorexic or epic it looks if riding is level 1 the mount moves like a turtle with narcolepsy
