Problem with my Ultimate Power

Been playing for a while and never had problems building up Ultimate power points. All of a sudden, I go through a battle and my ultimate is still at 0%. Any ideas?

Templar with Puncturing Sweeps, Silver Shards, Reflective Light, Defensive Stance, Shield Charge. Crescent Sweeps.

I usually so reflective Light--Silver Shards (if undead types)--Shield Charge---Spam Puncturing Sweeps tell dead with possible Defensive Stance is casters.

Do I need to do physical attacks to gain ultimate?

Isn't spamming Puncturing Sweeps considered a light attack

Light attack is clicking the left mouse button.

(you can also increase ultimate by blocking an attack or dodging it)

Interesting...maybe I have changed my playstyle because of the mobs dropping so fast. Not as much need to block or dodge. Before I automatically building up the ultimate and didn't make the connection between left click, right hold or dodging and doing the buildup.

Building ult is slow without light and heavy attacks as others have said.

My 1hand and shield 3 piece set is this:

Part of the Blessing of the Potentates set
Bonuses: 2 Pieces
Adds 75 Stamina Recovery
3 Pieces
Reduce cost of Ultimate abilities by 10%.

(that's just level 50 values, can't remember what VR14 is, it's something like 120 stam regen from memory and ult reduction cost of 10, with my NB soul harvest costs about 45 ult, works well)

I get ulti up pretty quickly with that set and weaving light and heavies.

Yea, I was just charging up and making them dead fast with spamming Puncturing Sweeps. Not blocking for doing light or heavy attacks. Ultimate has starting building again now that I throw in a few left clicks.

Every 6 sec u can activate a Dawn's Wrath ability to earn a few extra ult points (reflective is on your bar, you said) so every 6 sec, put it on the mob and you gain a little more ult.

The solution was found, but I like how no one explained why you suddenly found yourself having this problem.

Patch 1.6 changed how Ultimate generation worked. Previously, using abilities that damaged enemies built ultimate. In 1.6, this is no longer the case. A hidden buff that lasts ~8s is granted to you whenever you use a light/heavy attack which grants you small amounts of ultimate over its duration. When the buff ends, you stop gaining ultimate until you again use a light/heavy attack.

This is the sole way of gaining ultimate outside of a few niche ability and passive effects. There are other short-term buffs that multiply the effectiveness of the light/heavy attack ultimate-generation buff, too (at least, I'm fairly sure that's what they do).

In any case, use a light/heavy attack every 8s or so and you'll find you have plenty of ultimate.

and also if you heal seomeone that has the buff, you also get it
