Do anybody use just one hand weapons without the shield or dual wielding them?

I was just wondering if anybody uses just a one hand weapon without the shield.

I find that one hand is one the weirdest things in this game.
  • One hand weapons levels up the one hand and shield skill line but you cannot use the skills or passives.
  • You can not use the skills from dual wield but enemies in the game can throw daggers without dual wielding and only use one weapon.
  • This weapon got improve animations even though it does not have a skill line.
  • The sneak kill with one hand looks better than the dual wield sneak kill to me.
  • ESO show case thieves with one hand in trailers but still have not put a skill line dedicated to them.
  • They separated the animations of one hand and one hand and shield to make them different.

What do you guys think about this random concept in this game?

Yes, I use a one handed weapon in one hand and a one handed weapon in the other hand.
FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Are you talking about a combined skill-line and questpack that will be added to the crownstore sometime in 2017 or so?

    Why?

The appropriate weapon for a spellsword is the one-hand and shield (only went 1 handed when you were forced to bind a spell to a hand) and a battle mage uses either a staff or two-handed.

As for melee if your dexterous enough to wield two one hands it seems like you'd be wasting potential just to one hand.

I was just playing around with just using one sword and I just like it. It looks more natural using magic attacks with just one sword instead of two plus it looks epic when you have a dodge skill on and you character dodges the attack like a boss.

I haven't tried it yet because I'm just now getting around to rolling a NB but what I'd really like to do is use a sword in my left hand and a dagger in my right. So it'd be something like a rapier and main gauche though I guess I'll just have to go with the smallest sword I can get since we don't have rapiers. :( Would this be considered dual wield? Or do both weapons have to be of the same type to work as dual wield?

This is a topic mentioned many times wishing for some kind of "fencer/swashbuckling" style way of fighting. Personally i'd say no, as all those style of fighting imo would be better if they they either just picked up a bigger weapon or grabbed a shield.

Swashbuckling involves the use of a shield. Fencing was a generic term for sword combat, but also referred to a total style of combat. As it originated with the longsword, it heavily involved the use of grappling and guarding. Shields were also used in several fencing styles. Just FYI.

I used to run around in Skyrim with an axe in one hand and a ball of fire in the other.

It makes a lot of sense, if you are going to block cast a fiery whip then hold a weapon in one hand and the whip in the other.

Dual wielding with just one weapon is fighting with one hand behind your back - and the purist would insist on being naked:)

As long as the weapon is one handed you can mix and match to still use the dual wield skill line. There are some builds that uses separate weapons too utilize the last dual wield line passive effects.

This has been discussed many times, and likely will be discussed many times again until they do something along those lines.

So far the notion I like most was the "Sword and magic" idea for spellsword playstyle... one handed weapon and some sort of "magic focus/rune/holy object" for the offhand to mix weapon attacks and spell attacks.

I really hope they would do this someday...

Of course, I for one would also like to see the very same "magic focus" to become available as alternate weapon for "destruction (staff)" skill lines... I for one would love to have my sorceror cast spells from an small focus carried on the belt instead of a big, unwieldy staff slung on the back... it'd make so much more sense for a "librarian"... ;) And I expect many a healer would like to cast their healing by raising some aedric symbol instead of a staff...

Of course, such "foci" would be perfect for jewelry crafting... (hint, hint, nudge, nudge)

Spellsword would be interesting style in this game. Sacrifice Defense for more Offense/A Heal Spell, with a Sword/Axe/Hammer/Dagger. I feel that once they do finally add in Spell crafting in the way of the different schools, it will go a lot towards creating a type of class based on this idea.

Hopefully when they add that in though you can create a Weapon/Spell skill line that you can learn. Would love that for my Altmer Sorcerer, then I could make her like the Altmer from the CGI Trailers.

In Morrowind you had a stupid 'magic stance' that would put away your weapons to cast: Horrible for spellsword types.

In Oblivion you could wield a two-hander or sword-and-board and cast spells anytime. No dual-wield, but very convinient.

In Skyrim you could have a spell or weapon in each hand, or go for a shield. It was weaker than Oblivion and you couldn't even block/parry in dual-wield. The only saving grace were the shouts.

ESO is more similar to Oblivion, with added dual-wield and faster action. A one-hand-only skill line would have to be overpowered to even consider to use. There are irl sword styles where the off hand is used for balance, but they are either rare or non-practical.

Plus you lose the benifit of the off-hand item. I personally cringe when I have to use a staff or a bow in the secondary slots, causing me to lose a set piece...

the one hand skill line should have been in the game to begin with. Originally you could use one hand and shield skills without the shield but they changed that.

They should have a one hand skill line with its passives and skills focused on instead of defense as with shield or with attacking as with dual wield, with adaptablility. Easier to dodge attacks, magical attack spells get an increase in crit chance, and have a series of different short duration but low cost buffs that nature of the buff changes when morphed. All skills of one hand doesnt get enhanced with an additional effect when morphed but the entire nature of the skill itself changes with its morph options to reflect its adaptability to compromise with its singular damage, not benefitting from bonus damage and speed like dual wield or increased defenses like sword and shield.

thats how I feel they should do One handed skill line.

They still had a shield on their left arm; possibly just new animations for what seemed to be a Templar.

He doesn't want them, including full utility of a missing item.
So if its not the look or a weird RP reason its voluntary gimping.
