Maces (1h + 2h) testing: Is armor penetration working?

In my testing, I'm getting a higher single (as well as double) hit on both cit and non-crit with 2x 1h swords over 2x 1h maces. For me, this makes sense in a way, but in a way it doesn't? Shouldn't 20% armor penetration do more damage than 5% increase to damage? Additionally, the Nightblade skill Surprise Attack hits harder with swords equipped rather than maces.

Can anyone actually confirm that 20% armor penetration is working? Additionally, can anyone confirm that sharpened or 'Piercing' under the Mage-Ritual line?
Let fate be your guide.

Its a 20% reduction of what they have, not a straight 20% reduction. So if they have 25% mitigation, and they lose 20% of that, you would gain a 5% dmg increase.

    I have 2x1H mace and a 2H mace.

I would like to know if its more powerfull for to keep mace weapons and invest into armor penetration champion points or is more powerfull to change weapon and taking sword and invest into physical damage or armor penetration champions points ?

PS : Only in pvp situation

it's just maths. the more armour on the enemy, the more useful the mace over the sword. Sword better vs light.
