Class Help! - Cannot choose main (Sorc or Nightblade)

Hi everyone!

I understand that there are a lot of people who are complaining about sorcerer and I am having alt-itus (inability to chose and stick to a main class and it is killing me).

I am mostly a dual wield or 2 hander kind of guy (typically a mage / paladin hybrid).

I like classes like battlemages and Spellswords or Kensei (Swordmasters in old D&D).

I do not mind pets (I prefer not having to rely on 3 skills though curse + 2 pets) to be effective (they give good companionship but yeah...prefer having more options).

I do not like to swap bars to much (stick to 1 bar is typically more me)

I like to be in melee a lot - I like having the option of going mage down the road (Like a Mesmer in GW 2...)

I like the idea of a sorc 2 hander or Dual wield (Thundering Prensence, Flurry Curse and 2 pets or with 2 hander cleave)

I like the idea of nightblde Dual wield as the Stealthy spellsword style...

Really could use some help.

No drama though about sorcerers please .....only legit talk about melee pve only - I do not pvp at all!

Thanks guys!!!!!

there is no real place for hybrid builds like a battlemage or "spell swords" in PvE generally, at least outside of solo content.

you might come close with a Sorc if you take it all with a grain of salt. Pets will never be useful for a non mage untill they give stam morphs or something else tho.

so if you actually make it your main you are going to want to focus on stam then to be able to use those dual wield or 2hander.

neither class really will use much innate to the class these days for those builds, and passive wise you have either sorcs cost reduction or NBs stam regen.

contrary to popular belief, Overload is WONDERFULLY powerful still even on a stam build and if you want to be a "Battle mage" in endgame content thats probably the closest you will get.

out of the two, NB is almost completly shoehorned into melee now, while sorc is the oppsite. so if you end up going pure mage later you will probably do better with sorc..

but there are still places for the NB sap mage in keeping groups alive while dealing damage..

honestly i cant really help you.... i have both at VR14 and have done stam and magicka with both of them....

both are more or less on par at times, but i found my NB had better luck getting groups simply because of Veil.... (pre-1.6)

I play every class in every situation. I love them all.

In all honesty: Do not play a sorcerer since we are the weakest class by far in the game. In PVP we do ok, but in PVE we do significantly less damage than other classes as melee and we cannot keep that damage up for long either.

Plus we can only tank things that a dragonknight can "tank" as DD, meaning we can only tank things that need no tank.

Plus we are the second worst healers in game.

Plus we need pets to do damage with all the problems the pets introduce to the group / raid like increasing the incoming damage to the raid (Aetherian Archive Mage's chain lightning) and soaking up healing intended for players and unwanted boss pulls and pets attacking crowd controlled mobs thereby breaking crowd control and the reduced number of ability slots because pet abilities are toggles which must reside on both weapon bars.
