I am about to complete the Main Story quest that will open up the Veteran Zones. What I want to know is, can my level 42 friend (who hasn't completed the main quests) join me in the V1 area, or will they not be able to travel to me until they complete the quest line and get to 50?

They will not be able to travel to the Silver zone until they complete the Main Quest (and talk to Cadwell), but they do not need to be level 50.

I've seen level 48s in my Silver zone (Glenumbra).

No, I don't believe your friend will be able to.

Travel To Player won't work if they don't have access to the VR zones themselves and as far as I know VR unlocks once you complete the main quest, it is after all a continuation of that to some extent, I am however not sure if there's a minimum level you need, but I think not.

In effect (but not actually) while in a VR zone you change faction and so cross-faction resrtictions apply, such as Travel To Player.

    Beaten to it. :)

    Thank you for the input.

Is there a way they could join me on the final main quest, or is it solo?

All the Main Quest stages are solo instances.

You can arrange to go in at the same time (I did this with a friend), but each of you will be in their own instance.

It was impossible in 1.5. I didn't tested it in 1.6.

The MQ's Scale to the Player and are Forced Solo. However for most of the battles, you have NPC help. And, once you learn the mechanics*, the battles are doable with any build or character. Well, I am sure someone could come up with a build that would fail at it, but that build would not make it to the MQ end part anyway.

One thing that does happen, if you die during the battle, ressurect in place. The Boss is supposed to downscale in difficulty if you die, and I think that even happens on the first death now. So, make sure you bring lots of Soul Gems.

*There are threads in the MQ Section of the boards that detail how to handle the last 3 bigger battles.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Does someone have to finish the Coldharbour quest to get the final Main quest? And do they have to be a certain level to activate the veteran quest line?

You do have to finish the Colharbor main quest to activate the last stage of the Main Quest.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the last stage of the Main Quest triggers at level 45, but since I've always been at least V1 when I got to that part (I like doing all the side quests), I never had a chance to test it.

Though from memory, I remember someone posting a screenshot of them defeating Molag Bal at level 37, so maybe all you have to do is finish the main Coldharbor quest?
