    Hard to say.

ES tends to be a console hit but ESO is an MMORPG. First problem with console sales.

For the rest, let me quote myself from your other thread:

    No, definitely not.

They should be happy when they get as much sales as they got for the PC version.

With all the delays, the bad reputation of Zenimax and ESO, all the mistakes in the last year, their poor communication and their "lies" the console ESO playerbase has shrunken. I doubt it will get sales beyond 1 million although it's an ES game. But that didn't help the PC version either.

No question in my mind, the initial sales on console will likely dwarf PC/Mac initial sales. The real question will be how will the retention rate look for the console playerbase when compared to PC/Mac.

Final Fantasy XIV on PS4 & Neverwinter Online on XBox One (end of March release date) - I don't see any of the new consoles lacking a great MMORPG. And FF XIV is an incredible success, three or for times of ESOs success - I think it will be hard for ESO to battle that monster especially when they release their amazing addon in June.

Honestly, I doubt there is any real concern about "Retention Rate". Once the person has spent £45-50 on the game, ZoS will be happy.

Retention rate is about the most important thing when talking about an MMO, at least one that you want to be around for a while, even for one with a B2P model. The initial box price provides a nice injection for ZOS but they need to keep selling things over the long term to keep the game going with new items/content.

Probably not. If they would have released on their original timeline, they would have had enormous box sales. But with the long delay a lot of people lost interest and started playing other games. I'm sure they will have decent sales, just not going to blow away pc sales.

Would you count the$20 console transfer as new sales? If you do that might come close to pc sales.

Besides, they announced a real elder scrolls game for console and they will wait for that instead of playing a game that is kinda sorta elder scrolls. TES mmo is cool, but most fans are happy with single player/coop play.

I doubt it! I think they should have put the effort into making PC better. If I am right it will be a lose/lose for ZOS.

I don't think it will have more sales. I don't think there is that much crossover between people that play MMOs and people that prefer consoles. So far MMOs have really been a PC niche. But also this game has gotten so much negative feedback so far It's probably lost much of it's credibility. They simply released the game too soon before they really had a clear vision of what it should be. It's come a long way but it might be too late to regain a positive reputation. I also don't think the graphics are good enough for this generation of gaming consoles. PC players will accept lesser graphics in MMOs for better online performance, but you have a group that is used to playing games that are optimized for great graphics and I just don't think ESO can compete in that regard. Check out the screenshots from this list.

Console sales will dwarf PC sales. Elder Scrolls has done amazingly on consoles. Skyrim's PC sales were 14% of the grand total and Skyrim's generated over a billion dollars. So long as ZOS continues to finesse and improve ESO, and add the content that vets are starving for, there's no reason ESO can't be that same game.

Yes, it will sell well on consoles. There are enough Skyrim fans to drive that. Forget about the MMO part, that is not why people will buy it. They will buy it because they can play a Skyrim-like game with their friends.

It will sell well, a large amount of people will play through the story with their friends and then they will be off to play the next new shiny release. Although retention will be poor over the long run, the cash shop will be used and they will make their money there. These days nearly every big game has some form of cash shop and players have become conditioned to buy the skins and trinkets. They will spend even more when the XP boosters hit the shop.

The down side is that when the inevitable happens and the release is bugged/glitched and not running well, the negative feedback will be exponentially worse than PC.

F2P, B2P, etc. are valid, proven business models - but subscription is the one that fits ESO the best, given our commitment to freedom of gameplay, quality and long-term content delivery. Plus, players will appreciate not having to worry about being "monetized" in the middle of playing the game, which is definitely a problem that is cropping up more and more in online gaming these days." - Matt Firor

Admittedly, the current state of ESO has a few problems, but the launch will be gold compared to how the PC launch was. There are very few bugs that really irk me in its current state.

I would wager that a good portion of the people interested in ESO on PC have already purchased it at some point in time, so ZOS will not get another purchase from them come TU. Conversely, all console sales for ESO will count towards a TU sale, with this I would be inclined to say console TU sales will overcome PC TU sales. Whether or not pass combined sales on PC, no idea, probably?

That bar is set extremely low. The "few problems" we see today are extensive to fresh eyes. Throw in the expected network problems and the large amount of problems in PVP and this is a powder keg waiting to explode. I hope it doesn't, but I expect it will

I think it's possible for more sales, if Zos doesn't release a 20g patch on consoles. Xbox doesn't have a huge amount of disk space and because they force you to install the entire game to the hd if reviews complain of too much dl time/size console players may shy away from purchases.

However, this may be a good thing since space is at a premium, players may be selective for which games they do play/keep on hd. Also, because consoles are idiot proof (standard design) players new to the MMO world may be pretty happy with playing on console since most of the major adjustments will be done by game producers with a simple dl patch.

My personal belief is that the more mmos that include console play the better the industry as a whole will become.

These percentages don't include digital sales. They were taken from VGChartz in the first week after release and haven't been updated since. I'm tired of explaining this to people for 3 years.

I don't know. But I've never played an MMO before, but was a TES console fan.

Now that I've played on the PC, I think I'll stay here.

Even though I hate consoles because ported games from them ruin the game for us PC players .. Aka Watchdogs .. Lol
But I still think consoles will sell more then PC just based on the fact that more people own consoles then a mid to high end PC ..

Hence why recently companies are going console crazy lol

I really hope so. I want to see this team continue to create the quality standard of content they put out.

If it means giving focus to the consoles for a while, and dealing with some relatively minor issues and setbacks, so be it. So long as extra character slots are an option at some point, I'm in it for the long road ahead.

Most of the content outside the main UI components (which PC gets to mod anyway) are the same development process, so the more revenue generated for the company, the better things will be for all of us.

ESO is no Skyrim and literally everybody knows that because the game is out for 15 months when it hits consoles. The "Skyrim-a-like" crowd could have been gathered if console and PC launch would have happened simultaneously, but right now everybody knows that ESO is nothing like Skyrim.
