How exactly is enlightenment intended to work?

I still don't understand how to properly look to gain enlightenment. I realize there are glitches and blah blah but I want to know how I would actually go about earning it. I have a V5 Sorcerer and a slew of other alts that I play. I don't know the "Best way" or if there is such a way to corner my own enlightenment market for CP. Suggestions? Insight?....... help?

This is my understanding of how enlightenment is supposed to work:

You should receive 400k in enlightenment on your account every 24 hours. You don't have to do anything to earn it. It is shared by all of your toons. Normally, it requires 400,000 in XP to earn a champion point (CP). Enlightenment multiplies the XP you earn by 4 and applies it to champion point experience. So, if you earn 100k experience while enlightened, you earn 400k towards a champion point and your enlightenment is used up. That 400k is enough to earn a champion point. So, when working properly, enlightenment allows you to earn 1 champion point a day as long as you play enough to earn 100k in XP a day. Once you use up your enlightenment, you will have to earn another 400k in XP to receive another champion point within the same 24 hour period.

If you don't use your entire 400k of enlightenment points, they will accumulate up to a maximum of 1,200,000 enlightenment points - or three days worth. If you don't play for three days or more, you should have 1.2 mil in enlightenment when you log on next. Your XP will be multiplied by 4 until you use up the entire 1.2 mil in enlightenment. So 300k XP should earn you 3 CP and your enlightenment will be use up. Hope that helps.

nope, 400.000 enlightment points per acc per day if that acc has a vetchar, multiple vets on an acc do not give any enlightment benefits.

Also, it's up to 12 days worth of enlightenment.

    From the 1.6.5 patch notes:

-A new mechanic, Enlightenment, has also been introduced to the game.

-Enlightenment slowly accumulates on your account at a fixed rate, regardless of the character you are playing, as long as your account has at least one Veteran Rank character.

-Anything that normally awards experience will also give your Veteran Ranked characters bonus experience as long as you have not used up your Enlightenment.

-This only applies towards Champion Point progression at the Veteran Rank.

-This bonus experience does not apply towards increasing your level, Veteran Rank, or improving any weapon skills.

-As experience is earned and bonus Champion experience is applied, your Enlightenment will get used up. Once there is no more Enlightenment left, experience earned will count towards Champion point progression at the normal rate.

So, there's not really any best way to get it. It just builds up. At what rate? Who knows...

Yeah it doesn't seem to be working the same across the board. After the 1.6.5 update, when I first logged in I wasn't enlightened at all. Then suddenly one day I was, and I've been enlightened every time I've logged in since then. Gained a full CP on while enlightened and it didn't wear off. Worth noting that I only have one VR character.

See that's all I could find on the topic officially also. It doesn't say what the fixed rate is or how that rate is impacted by things performed if it is at all even. Like, does it matter if you are playing an alt more? will that give you more on your main? is it based off of how long you are Not in game or how long you ARE in game? Does any of that matter etc?

I guess I'm just looking for anyone with more specific info that the note off the patch notes because it's so vague as to almost be worthless imo. Thanks! :)

For sure, I totally agree. It would be nice if ZOS could step in and give us a more detailed explanation of how it works.

This is mostly speculation on my part, but I think they are purposely being vague because enlightenment is actually more a tool they use at their end to control the rate at which the player base is gaining Champion Points. The rate you gain them while enlightened is pretty fast and reasonable. While not enlightened it's really slow.

So by increasing or decreasing the flow of enlightenment they essentially raise and lower a "cap" - the cap being the point when you run out of enlightenment. Obviously that's not a firm cap because you can still gain CP, but the difference in rate of progression between being enlightened and not is enough feel "capped".

To expand on that a bit...

Different players may gain enlightenment at different rates. People who have less CP will be enlightened more often, allowing them a chance to catch up to those who are further ahead.

When someone hit 120x3 champion points, he will be many many times more overpower then a player with 199x3 champion points due to passives. So those 3 "last" champion points will count so much more then the "mid game" ones. So due to this, I personally don't feel as much overall progress. They did this rotation thing only so one could not max one of the trees fast, but think about it, now you suddenly get 3 times as powerful when you finally get it.

Actually, that's not all that true. A guy with 119 points in a single colour is looking at, between the three constellations of that colour, being able to have:
    • One constellation at 70, giving three passive bonuses
    • One constellation at 30, giving two passive bonuses
    • One constellation at 10, giving a single passive bonus
    • Nine more points to put somewhere for the actual per-point bonuses

Hitting 120 points in that colour, and earning the fourth in one of those trees, is gonna cost them three passives in the process of respeccing. I'll admit that some of the 120-point passives are pretty nice, but there's still a trade-off involved.

The patch notes for the latest update explained that they are still working on issues related to enlightenment. I hope that we will have some sort of sticked dev note or patch note, etc. about enlightenment as a whole to properly indicate how it will work from that point on, once they believe the major issues have been ironed out.

^^ has less than nothing to do with enlightenment or any semblance of my question. ... thanks though? lol

yes. a part of me wonders if they aren't sure exactly how it should be working but know it's not working quite right. Maybe that's why there is no real clear indication as to how one accumulates enlightenment specifically. IDK I was just hoping for something a bit more concrete but it appears we've got nothing so far. :'(

I play on 2 different characters - one is v10 the other is just lvl 11. Nearly every time I switch from low level character to vet one I receive enlightment. Not sure if there are any other ways to gain it, but this one works for sure.
