Zone chat, must we bear this? Platers, chat is for chatting.

To be honest zone chat in Glenumbra this weekend was an utter cesspit. Worst I have seen it since launch. Just filled with 13 year old lads name calling and having filth filled arguments at about the intellectual level of a Nord in a brewery.

I'd sort of expect it in Glenumbra though as it is a lower level area but this really was the worst I have seen it and I've been around since beta.

I've noticed this too.. across the EU/EP lower level zones.

On the flip side, I've also noticed that the guild chat across several of the guilds I'm in is much better than launch. People have got to know each other, communities have formed & are on the whole very welcoming & friendly.

Guilds can regulate themselves (Unlike zone chat), so if you want better quality conversations without the rubbish in zone then just put zone on a separate tab and just look at the guilds. Even a lot of the big trade guilds have pretty good & active chatfeeds now.

In fact... that's probably the reason for the degredation in zone chat since beta... most people are now chatting away in their guilds rather than zone. Back in the early days fewer people were in good guilds so it was bound to change a bit.

Well, guilds are mostly vehicles for sale/buy activity. ESO has no auction house and this is why people are in the guilds. Otherwise it would be much less guilds around. Btw, one of the best items for crown shop I would see the option to increase the number of slots for the guilds to join from 5 to 10. This I would buy in a sec.
Chat is the ad channel for everything now. This chat is not world wide - it is zone chat, so people who are not in the zone will not hear you. And usually it is Ok. Vet zones are nice - nobody is talking. People are grinding :) Initial zones could be really annoying, but ignore option does miracles. If you will ignore 5-10 most talkative [snip] chat will be really quiet.
I agree that it will be worse from 3/17, and I would appreciate if ESO would increase the number of ignored users from 50 to 200 or 300. This would be enough for me in after 3/17 world :)

Zone chat is the Devil and will get worse after the 17th as others have said. It became bad because of attention seeking trolls who think bad attention is better than no attention and 13 year olds who think it's cool to use profanity. Rid the world of those people and zone chat will be good once again.

"Chat is for chatting" - yeah, right. Have you tried chatting in zone? I remember a few weeks ago after 1.6 went live on the PTS I was discussing some changes in zone chat and people kept telling us to shut up or they'd put us on ignore. And god forbid you try to chat in anything but English, even in the general chat in the EU server. You'll make english-only speakers so nervous that they won't hesitate to waste minutes writing against it in chat instead of ignoring a couple of lines of text.
