New mount physics in 1.6

Why change the mount physics? Gone is the acceleration and smooth deceleration. Gone is the smothness and imersion when riding. Now it feels like you just lanched yourself from a sling shot and cant control as much when first riding. A small tap in direction used to aim us, now it moves us some distance and aims me in a direction i dont quite want to go.gamey, and less like an elderscrolls game. Less control at low speeds. What was the point for this ZoS?

As someone who rides a lot in cyrodill, being able to cast manuvers while mounted and being able to weapon swap is an amazing change! But the physics of the horse seemed to have taken two steps backwards. The new feature for riding over small objects was not really needed imo. Now, its like hitting a brick wall when riding over a small object, going from a full sprint in manuvers to inching along isnt very realistic.

I love being able to weapon swap and cast manuvers though!

I hope they will fix riding because atm a mount stops to move suddenly, even without any obstacle.
From patch notes I got the changements were made for a smother movement not to stop it completely.

My horse stops randomly, slows down randomly, speeds up randomly, and twitches.

Unfortunately they've taken away animation 'blending' (e.g. smooth increase between walking/running). That effect would sometimes have your lower body and upper body de-synchronized and running/walking funny. So to combat this all blending animation mechanics were basically removed from the game, which include the horse steady increase/decrease in acceleration.

Which is a shame because the horse mechanics were really nice, and now they're a little silly. But we'll all get use to it, hopefully.
If you can be anything, be kind.

do not ruin my instant acceleration!

also immersion your horse spawns from mid air and vanishes when stepping in a puddle as well as immortal and re summonable there is no immersion here. i for one love the speed increase and not having to dismount to get over a twig.

Other than the stutter step, which I assume is a bug to be addressed, I absolutely love the new mount physics. As for immersion, the fact that you use your magical whistle and you mount appears... isn't that immersion breaking? w/e, people use immersion when it aids their argument then totally ignore it when they love immersion breaking aspects.

I hope ZOS keeps the mount system the way it is now, just mine own opine though.

I won't argue the immersion point but I do prefer the older acceleration system as it means you could move slowly around on the horse then take off at full speed moments later.

Now trying to move around a small area on the hose (with full 60%) has you flying off cliffs, into lakes and past NPC's as they're shooting off at full speed.

I personally would love to see the medium speed come back for them, maybe with the option that a shift + W start ignores that and goes right into full speed as now.

I got the first stop for no reason last night. However my horse seems to run different speeds as I am going along. Oddly, it seems to Sprint without losing Stamina, but then it will start "jogging" (non sprint running)* and using up stamina.

I also have noticed that when I call my horse now it takes off like a shot, making me wonder just how my character could hang on, much less mount the thing.

*Yes, I know the terms are Canter and Gallop, but I am not a Equestrian, which means I can use the terms I want. Same reason I can call the back of the boat the rear, I am not a sailor and hence do not have to adhere to these silly terms.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Two steps forward one janky step back, eh?

I don't know why they couldn't disable the blending for certain animations and not others.

What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.

I agree, the mount system has gone from bad to worse. Weird animations, floppy graphics, no physics at all, and mounts disappear... what's with that?

The biggest issue right now though is NO MOUNTING WHILE IN COMBAT... why not???

Totally agree. Turning and acceleration/deceleration controls for mounts were a lot better and felt a lot more precise in Update 5. Now, when your horse is facing right on your screen and you just tap the <A> key quickly to turn left, your horse will immediately sprint half a mile to the right instead (in the direction it was facing, the opposing direction from where you actually wanted to move!). It feels more like controlling a hovercraft than riding a mount in Update 6.

Not quite, I don't think people jump off from a hovercraft as soon as it hits the water^^
