Fencing Items Valued at 250 (or more) Triggers Prompt

So, what is the game trying to tell me... that I should launder the 250 items to get the gold?

If you launder the item, you area actually paying for it, not receiving gold, and thats the point, you launder something so guards wont be able to take it from you.

I have no idea why the game gives that popup. It is not like you can do anything else but to sell those items. Maybe that will change in 2025 when we have housing and you can use that stolen stuff to make a pretty house.

[EDIT] I think I have figured it out! MAYBE the popup wont show because of the value but because of the rarity? This would help you not to accidently sell any stolen motifs to fences since they have no buyback tab.

Do laundering them increase their value when trying to sell to a merchant? Care to check?

This is the most logical reason.

Imagine finding an Imperial, etc...then whoops, misclicked it while in fencing and not laundering and it's gone for good.

But you only get it the first time. Subsequent high value items don't trigger it. That motif will slip right by. To my view it's a worthless message except the very first time you encounter the situation.
  • b_archaonpreeb18_ESO
Well, there might be some items you'll want to keep for bragging purposes. Fences don't have buyback.

I'm hoping they add some thieves guild quests in later that we will need these items for, and the annoying pop up is a part of this (so you don't accidently sell an item an npc may want).

I think even after you launder them most of the items are bound - with the exception it seems of NPC clothing which only becomes bound after you dye it.

I only get the prompt on blue or purple, higher cost per item vs. total amount per transaction. In other words, when I've 10 green items of the same thing stacked, that fence for sell 1,700 in a single transaction I don't get a prompt, but just one blue 250 item prompts.

Yeah only reason to launder is to get the skill line XP after you've reached your max fence amount, otherwise once you sell to merchant you don't make any money. Or it may be something you want to keep. I've gotten blues and purples but nothing worth keeping so far.

I dont see this as a big deal, but to each their own I guess. More safety that involves not selling something like say a Motif is a good idea IMO.

Yes, this feature is implemented probably because of stolen usable items. Thats why "No, thank you!" checks itemType and removes prompt only if itemType is ITEMTYPE_NONE. If you have stolen racial motif, itemType will be ITEMTYPE_RACIAL_STYLE_MOTIF, so prompt will be displayed.

Yeah, I assume it's because of laundered motifs/recipes.

What I usually do is open the Launder tab first, launder anything I want to keep and then mindlessly fence everything else. :-P

I get the pop up every single time. And it also prevented me from selling a motif one time.

Force weapon swap to have priority over EVERYTHING. Close enough.
Make stamina builds even with magicka builds.
    Disable abilities while holding block.

It's the rarity to not the price. It's to people wouldn't come here and whine they accidentally sold their blue/purple/gold item they wanted to keep. You can't buy back items sold to a fence so they wanted to make sure any item blue or higher you really want to sell. Like trojan, It's for your protection.

Hmm, apparently I perceived this incorrectly. Thanks. My main concern was that those odd high-value items had some actual use that I wasn't aware of, and that I was being stupid by fencing them. At least I'm not seeing any sign of that here.

The No Thank You addon gets rid of all the prompts at Fences for rare items.
