Help With My V6 Sorcerer

So I set her up just like she was before the update and man she is squishy. I just did Lions Den solo but barely got out of there without getting killed. I had a nice 1000g repair bill...ugh.

She is running 7light armor using twilight for healing and clanfear. She uses restro/destro staffs and is a WW. Restro staff is kind of sill as I don't use any restro skills at all now. I use to throw down shattering prison and fire ring and had health left in mobs. Not now...esh. My little twilight is keeping me alive most of the time in mobs now. Do I dare go medium/heavy armor? Just not sure what to do at this point. I go solo on everything so I need to survive the hits. Anyone have tried and true 1.6 sorcerer builds they can offer up I can try? I've never been to PVP so my armor is PVE made using all light Whitestrake and Seducer with Atronach stone. I run five Whitestrake and three Seducer.

I like to know what people have to say also. I was using hardened ward as a damage mitigator but was wondering if light armor is useless now with the update.

Light armor is useless, dont think of it as armor, more a thin layer of clothing providing cheaper means of using magicka spells. Again, it offers basicly no protection. Use wards to mitigate dmg, wards is your block and your dodge and even your heals. The higher your magicka the stronger your ward.

    Thanks, good to know!

Thanks for the info! :) So I should go medium or heavy? I guess leaving light I would need to throw all of my achievement points into magic then?

Light armour is fine but I use boundless storm to. Good protection and AOE effect and one still have the magic advantge of light armour. Bounless storm last much longer om 1.6.

Curious, why boundless storm and not thunderous presence? Thanks!

Before you throw all your LA away, try having a 5/2 setup, light/heavy. I can't guarantee it'll save your life, but combined with Wards and Boundless Storm, your survivability should go much higher.

I think he/she might be melee DPS, perhaps stamina based, and for that the extra movement speed is great. I've tried both, in the past. My first Sorcerer used Thunderous Presence for the extra duration, which worked fine for that build. With my second one, I wanted to try melee, so the 40% speed boost was awesome. You can just run circles around enemies. I'd even cast it out of combat just to run faster

    This is my setup:

    Destro Staff
    Crystal Fragments>Twilight>Clanfear>Shattering Prison>Fire Ring

    Restro Staff
    Crystal Fragments>Twilight>Clanfear>Daedric Prey>Hardened Ward

30 points in magic, 14 in health and 10 in stamina

I stopped using any healing skills a while back as I didn't need them. Could solo anything but now...lol...squishy!

    Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Have you considered maybe adding Endless Fury for the execute, and magicka return? That's 20% health you, ideally, don't have to deal with. It's also pretty cheap, so you can use it to proc Crystal Fragments. Lastly, I've gone with Restraining Prison in the past because it gives you a chance to move around enemies even after the immobilize. That's a respec decision, though, so probably not that helpful...

Again, I'd say to also try replacing a couple of light armor, chest/legs/head are best, with heavy.

I'm actually running 7 of 7 light armor and having no problems at Vet 6, same level as you. The setup I use is:

Bar 1 (single target): Force shock, crystal fragments, liquid lightning, daedric tomb, and hardened ward (can be replaced with twilight)

Rotation: Cast crystal fragments while closing on target. Cast liquid lightning while target is down. Cast daedric tomb so 3rd mine lands on target. Cast crystal fragments again, as it's very likely instant cast now. Use crushing shock and heavy attacks as fillers, and crushing shock to interrupt when necessary.

Bar 2 (multiple targets): Shattering prison, pulsar, liquid lightning, unstable wall of elements, hardened ward (replaced with twilight or something else if you feel you can survive).

Rotation: Hardened ward (helpful especially when soloing). Cast shattering prison. Cast liquid lightning. Cast unstable wall of elements. Cast pulsar twice. Recast shattering prison. Recast unstable wall of elements. Pulsar spam till dead.

For me using these spells I have absolutely no problem staying alive in all cloth. This is definitely a solo build though. Probably not very good for dungeons, though the multiple targets bar may work on trash pulls.

If you are going to run full light armour then wards have become a must have. If you are doing the Undaunted dailies then you will be progressing through the ranks to unlock the Undaunted Mettle passive which gives you a boost to resources for each different class of armour you wear. Running 5L/1M/1H will take full advantage and give you enough benefits from light armour passives. (Side note, if you do run even one piece of medium and heavy then try invest in the passives in those lines to get full advantage from it)

To maximise your ward power you want to stack max magicka and spell power, this is assuming you a pure magicka sorcerer. From other posts it seems that hybrids just aren't as effective so you can invest fully into magicka and tailor your sets for that reason.

In PvE I run 2 destro staves for the time being but I am likely going to run 1 destro and 1 resto to give me that extra bit of healing for offhealing in group situations. I am running 5 seducer (light), 2 undaunted (which will be 1 heavy and 1 medium), 3 piece warlock for jewellery. I have some shuffling to do by going for spell power but I get plenty of magicka regen for longer fights though my dps isn't as high as I'd like.

For skills it depends on how much you like your pets, I tried them for a bit and found them beyond clunky in fights at top end pve.
My first bar is for single target dps: Crushing Shock or Force Pulse, Entropy (morph of choice), Velocious Curse, Crystal Shards, Hardened Ward
Second bar is for a bit of crowd control and keeping up aoe: Impulse, Liquid Lightning, Streak, Crystal Shards, Thunderous Presence

As long as you comfortable doing a lot of weapon switching you can get decent dps and stay protected, popping thunderous presence to always stay up and same for the ward requires switching a lot but it has worked well for me in Craglorn and vet dungeons. All this depends on your playstyle but having streak allows you to dodge and stun enemies and means you don't need as much stamina for rolling etc.
If you want any other advice or anything I'll be happy to help if possible.

yeah, after the update ive notices my large mob killing build doesnt work anymore, but my pet/healer build, while slower to kill large mobs, does work, whereas it didnt use to. I do want a change, like bit more damage dealing at teh cost of being squishy-er. i mean thats what mage build characters are supposed to be, glass cannons.

after this update though, i feel like a self repairing glass cannon that fires cotton balls.

Here are a couple builds I'm using right now at VR6

Primary Bar. All about rune cage. Put them in a cage and then torture them! Nothing on the bar will break cage. The icing on this build is to use a resto staff *WITH NO DAMAGE ENCHANT* the heavy resto attacks will not break cage, but a damage enchant proc will. So if it fits in a cage this bar will kill it without the target ever touching you.

Secondary Bar. This is your general questing build, using a lightning staff. Start with destructive reach (concussed), then wall (off-balance) then 2 heavy attacks each knockdown with damage bonus, reapeat. Keep power surge for damage, bound armaments for armor + heavy attack bonus, hardened ward to take minimal damage. Everything also does some aoe so good for small to medium packs with no adjustments.

Biggest thing you want to take advantage of is the buffs of the different armor classes and the Undaunted Mettle passive that gives a Increase in your Max Health, Stamina and Magicka by 1% per type of Armor (Heavy, Medium, Light) that you have equipped. Level 2 of that passive gives 2%. So in my case I wear 5 light, 1 medium and 1 heavy.

i dont know if it will work for you, but here is what i do, and i make it out ok, though the reason i dont do well in lions den is because im a vampire, and there are A LOT of fire users there.

first of is the seducer gear set. with 5 pieces it reduces the spell cost by 8 percent. enchant all those with magicka fortifying glyphs, the higher the rarity the better.

second, jewlery that reduces cost and fortifies magicka.

third, dump all attribute points into magicka. im not kidding, this helps.

now for passive skills. take every passive that you can, especially those that either reduce cost or raise spellpower

combat skills. the first skill bar you use daedric prey, healing springs, empowered ward, summon clanfear and twilight. summon storm atronach as ult. This if a great build for boss fights, allowing you to keep your pets alive and strong, doing around 50% more damage than they usually do

the next skill bar uses much the same idea, but without the healing. empowered ward and the summons aside. its best to customize this bar to the situation. in pub dungeons its best to stock it with long lasting AoE spells, that way you can switch back and forth between the heal set and the aoe set.
If you are in a group that had a better healer than you are, stock it with elemental susceptibility and force pulse, allowing you to keep the enemy weak and giving you a low magicka cost, high damage, low cast time and cooldown attack.

This skillset heavily relies on the ability to switch between the weapon sets at a moments notice, as well as having a very high magicka pool to draw from. I created this build after 1.6 went live, so i know it works. it may take a tad longer to kill something, but you will be alive, and come out on top in nearly any situtation.

warning, this build has not been tested in pvp.

Thanks for all the information! I am trying out some different suggestions and I manage to stay alive but man my magic pool goes quick. It almost seems like the fire ring got nerfed as it doesn't do as much damage, or it feels like it anyway. Magic pool was never an issue before running three seducer and five whitestrake. I haven't applied any CP points as I want to see what she can do as a base, not pumped up on CP's. I have all passives for light armor, all sorcerer skills and destro staff applied. I put all of my achievement points into magic and put purple health on my armor. Going to try more things today. :)
