The New Mount System

uranium243_ESO
Dear ZOS,

First of all, let me say that I appreciate all the time and energy you put into this game. Some things work, some things don't. Overall, I think its a great game and I enjoy playing it at my own pace. (Still haven't gotten a character to 50, even though I've played since release.) I would, however, like to express my disappointment over the new mount system, though.

I enjoyed the fact that my mounts could specialize in one category (carrying capacity, speed, or endurance) and also that they changed looks depending on how I was raising them. Now, however, all of their stats are the same, and all of the visual accessories are the same. The only thing that changes is the base coloring of their coat. I feel like this is actually a step backward from what you had originally.

I understand that some people may like the new system since all of their mounts can now run fast, carry a bunch of stuff, and remain in the thick of battle, but, personally, I enjoyed that my mounts were specialized in a particular subset and it made my choices on what to feed them and who to use in certain situations much more important.

Thank you for your time,
Therin

There are several reasons why they implemented the new mount system, most notably the fact that they will introduce a ton of new mounts with the crown store. Imagine purchasing a Guar and leveling it up to max level in speed, for then a Senche to be released and you have to do it all again. With the new mechanic, you still have to spend a lot of money and time, but you don't have to do it for every single mount you unlock.

There are choices that should matter in regard to what you do, but the mount system should not - as it is purely for convenience.

I think that's part of the fun. Before, you could still ride the new Senche tiger on Day 1, but you still had to put the time and energy into leveling it if you wanted it to be the fastest or sturdiest or strongest. You had to raise the animal, which is the best part of having an animal. As it stands right now (assuming you've already maxed out your stats), your new Senche tiger is going to be its strongest, fastest, and sturdiest on Day 1 and there's no improving it beyond that. Boring! One of my favorite memories of WoW was finding a little tiger cub and having to spend ~45 days of daily quests feeding it before it was even big enough to ride. At the end, I got a rare achievement and an awesome mount, and the sense of accomplishment was much higher because I had to work for it.

My other point was that the horses are not special anymore. I liked using my draft horse (for extra carrying capacity) while I PvE'd and then had to switch to my destrier (for sturdiness) if I wanted to wade into the thick of PvP battle, or switch to my racing horse (for quickness) if I wanted to do the scouting/assassination missions in Cyrodiil. It made each horse unique and valuable to me. Now...not so much, since they're all the same.

I see some benefits to the new system, but I don't think they outweigh the drawbacks. I liked the old system better.

    Just my two cents.

The discussion of preference is irrelevant. Being presented with another grind every time a new mount was purchased would dissuade players from buying new mounts. This change was implemented to make crown store items more appealing. Rather essential, given that it is now their moneymaker.

Buying a new mount in the store does not give me any sense of accomplishment, at all. Neither does having that mount be at max characteristics from the start and not being able to improve over time.

But, I guess that's just me. Nevermind, ZOS. I'll just sit over here and keep my disappointment to myself.

says the guy complaining about complaints.

I'm happy with the new system, though i find it a bit sad that i no longer get the 10 bonus i got for the 47K i spend on the packhorse. Would have been considered to give back the money to the players that invested in expensive horses, and just give them a default horse (for the default horse price), with the stats of the horse(s) they had.

I didn't buy the pack horse for its looks... its ugly.

I would have to say I enjoy the new system a lot more than the prior system although adding more unique looks to saddles, reins, bags etc would be neat.

It is fun, for about the first 10 days on the first character.

I don't see any fun or sense of accomplishment in logging in every day to feed your new mount that you bought. It's a chore. I'm very happy with the new mount system.
