Character Diversity and the Champion System

Hi all,

In a conversation with some guildies last night the topic of role switching came up and how that pertains to the champion system.

Pre-1.6 it was possible to allocate all attribute points into health and stack magicka/stamina enchants on two different armor sets and switch between them quickly before battle to change roles (e.g. tank->dps, dps->tank, etc.). Now with the champion system there are way more passives that are specific to certain role's builds. If your speccing for damage you may put numerous CPs into damage related passives, tanks put CPs into damage mitigation, etc.

Will there ever be a way to easily reallocate 100s, dare I say 1000s of CPs to switch roles when needed? or are we stuck paying the gold to reallocate points at a snails pace each time we need a role change to our build?

Happy Hunting!

Yes this is going to change people into a more defined build for a while. You can still use glyphs and equipment to make up for deficiencies but not as effective in different roles. There will come a point where that ability to switch roles will reoccur but I think it is a long ways down the road for the majority. The thing is I think this is by design one of the best ways to keep older players playing is to have the carrot of used to be for them to chase. As to your direct question I foresee reallocation/re rolling continuing to be a gold sink.

Yes agreed. I'd like to see some kind of "saved sets" options in the champion system to quickly change point allocation, much like how we can have different saved color options at dying stations. Maybe someone can come up with an addon much like @Wykkyd's Outfitter but for champion points? Save a particular set and then the addon calculates the gold cost for redistribution and then executes it.

Edit: This may not be completely feasible however. It is my understanding that addon code can't touch our gold.

But what happened to all of the purported build diversity that the champion system was going to bestow upon us lucky mortals?

Oh well it will come "soon" ;-). The diversity is there just going to be a while before it becomes apparent.

I think an add on will be created to take care of the actual point reallocation, get the required gold amount, then give you the option to accept the cost for the change. Right now I have a whole whopping 6 points in each constellation but there will come a point where I will have much more.

    LOL

If the Champion System weren't enough, the removal of soft caps now means you typically go either full Stamina or full Magicka to maximize your skills that scale off either. This too will make it much harder to have hybrid builds and greater diversity.

With the limited amount of Champion Points we start out with, the Champion System will continue to push people into single roles. There's just not enough points to be able to place into two separate roles right now and will take a loooong time for people to easily be able to play two different roles just by switching gear. The only exception may be the Templar as a lot of increases I put my points into would work for both Healing and DPS.

I think the answer you'll see will end up being "tough luck, roll an alt". I definitely don't plan to be tanking with my caster DK anymore. I don't see a healer/DPS templar build as a problem though. The problem is really crossing the magicka/stamina dividing line.
