Was it really neccassry to release such a big patch ? of about 20 GB ?
Surely you guys could have done it in smaller incremements. This patch is going to take me days to download and then its going to cost me extra on ISP account.

Did ZOS not want to implement a new launcher that handed out only sort of the altered files and thus smaller download packages? Or something like that? Sorry, IT moron here... ;-)

What? If other games like WoW/GW/etc can do patches right, why can't ZOS? 20-30GB for a patch is unreal, that's almost the size of the game itself! It's been shown time and time again that ZOS are incapable of patching properly.

Most if not all games patch by just cutting and snipping code where it's required to make the necessary changes which means patches are very small. ZOS seems to not do that and instead seemingly just replaces whole files and forces you to download totally unnecessary stuff that you already have on your PC.

Take the PTS for example, it took me over 120GB of download to get that working, about three times I had to fully download and restart the patch due to various patch manifest errors that are no fault of my own and twice the launcher downloaded the entire bloody game when the whole game is sat in a folder right next to it.

ZOS have a terrible patching system and if they want this game to succeed they have to sort it out. This effectively prohibits people with data capped or slow connections from playing the game at all.

Wow/GW2 have never released a patch as big as this. It's changing the core combat mechanics for christ sake. Some people just whine about everything i swear.

My download completed in 12 hours and 30 minutes.

The issue isn't patches. The issue is that this game's download mechanism is absolute garbage.

I may not login until the other patches are pushed fixing the 8,000,000 bugs that came live with the game. Because I'm sure those patches will take at least 6 hours each and I'm sure the bugs are game breaking.

If you pay close attention to the launcher (not that I'd recommend it), you'll realize that most of the download is taking roughly 20% (if not 10%) of your progress bar; the rest is your computer treating the files locally which goes faster.

Don't let that low % discourage you.

I download at 15-16 MB per seconds. No problem here. Gonna take a dump and then play.

Costs me 65 euro a month. But that is including phone, tv and the fastest connection they have. For tv only the standard channels else its 15 euro extra.

I had the client open and happened to be watching when the download started. Initial download was 13GB. After it finished, the system patched for about 20 minutes and then downloaded another 3GB.

So when they say a patch is 25GB I think they are talking in terms of uncompressed files. Although 2:1 compression (even lossless) is still pretty crappy.

My wife complains that I never listen to her. (Or something like that.)

ZOS doesn't do anything small, cause bigger is better.

I heard internet speed is a common issue with people living in the US. I wouldn't know for sure, I live in Canada. The patch IS a monster, though; took me roughly 3h download.

The overhauled a lot of the game and what not. Hints* why the patch is so big.

Which is an interesting answer to my question, thank you. And pretty helpful, I should add.

Silly city folk preaching "Buy better internet"
10MBPS is the best rural internet around here and that costs me about 129.99+HST here in Ontario.

So narrow minded, these forum posters are.

I feel bad for people with crappy ISPs. Seriously, I do.

Here in 'merica I pay a monthly fee for unlimited use and a 15MBps download speed (that's 120Mbps). I did not have problems. I also wouldn't suggest ZOS limit content updates if hypothetically I did have a crappy ISP. Smaller increments? That would just be a PITA for most of us I think.
