Downloading the new patch?

When will we be able to start the download of the new patch? Got the day off and I have to take the wife to the doctor and would like to download it , becuase we know it takes a while

There's no evidence of any patch, it just says regular maintenance.

Just leave the client open and it will automatically begin when ready.

Leave your launcher open. It'll initiate itself once the patch is ready.

It said they were patching on the top of the page before the servers went down.

The patch most likely won't be ready for us to download until late in the day, maybe 4 or 5 pm. Hopefully sooner but I'm not counting on it.

Well that kinda sucks I mean the patch is ready all they have to do is put it up for download I would think?

PTS has the majority of the big changes listed, but the official notes for Live tend to not go up until they're a few hours in to maintenance.

They cant give us the client patch until they are 100% sure that the server-side patching went as planned.

Because it makes sense not to give people something to read and get an idea about what they're going to see .. no one with any common sense believes the PTS notes are final, every update since release has had 'surprises' .. while they're waiting for the servers to come back up ...

No, the PTS patch notes are not final. And yes, there will be new and/or undocumented changes, as usual.

Maintenance starts -> ZOS pushes server patch -> ZOS pushes client patch and posts changelog.

Downloads will start after a few hours, patch notes will be up with plenty of time before maintenance ends. Haven't we done a few dozen of these already? You guys should know how it works.

Amazing how some MMOs manage to enable the patch download the moment the servers go down and one, God Forbid actually manages to provide the vast bulk of large-scale patches days ahead of patch day .. wonder why they manage to get it so wrong.

If the server-side goes wrong in some fashion and has to be rolled back, then as long as they haven't already made the client-side patch available for download, all they need to do is restore and try again (or postpone trying again until they've figured out what went wrong). If they have already made the client-side patch available for download and the server-side goes wrong, then it's a nightmare to fix, and it could result in people who have already downloaded the client-side patch waiting days to get a new patch that will allow them to play the game - potentially while others who never downloaded the previous patch prematurely are still able to play. Heck, due to the complexity of putting a new patch out that accounts for people who have, and people who haven't downloaded the premature patch, it's possible it could be weeks for that new patch to come out.

Granted, that's a worst case scenario, and it's unlikely to happen, but when you're doing deployments you have to think about worst case scenarios, how to avoid them, and what to do if they happen anyway. I've been through enough deployments at work in the last year or two to know this...

It clearly stated ALL morning on the forums at the VERY TOP of the website that the [patch is going out the first Tuesday of March. Tell me, what is the date and day?

What actually happens when they do a patch like this I mean they patch the servers then they have testers log in to the game world to check and see if most of the environment is working? If everything seems to be working they roll the download to clients then patch notes?

Then the players find all the bugs that went live, then there will be multiple patches for the next couple of weeks.

Yes. The maintenance that starts tomorrow is for Update 6, so NA will have it tomorrow afternoon and EU on Wednesday.
