I am running two sorcs, one of my mains as classic ranged caster, and one alt as melee thunder priest.

Despite all the naysaying lately, both are fun, and so far haven't faced anything where they really felt lacking... maaaybe in top of the line endgame stuff they are a bit behind some others, I haven't gotten them to that yet.

But then, I play to have fun anyhow, not to brag about getting the shortest trial completion time or PvP leaderboprd or any of that...

If you like playing caster types, Sorcerors can be good fun. If you get bored, you can always also try DK pyromancer builds, NB lifestealers or templar healers. But then, seeing how different builds work can be a good part of the ESO fun too, doesn't mean the sorceror is any less interesting to play!

Yea... i think its true... sorcs are doing well enough, better than the other classes anyway.

In this thread I have been very positive about Sorcs... said they were fun... said that given what the OP mentioned that he shouldn't give up on his Sorc, tried to make constructive suggestions about keeping the Sorc, & tried SO hard to stay away from any kind of Sorc QQ'ing...

But I do just need to make one quick comment here.... The QQ'ing from Sorcs is mostly around end-game PvE... and here they are NOT better than other classes as you state, that's why the figures all show that there are fewer sorcs on the leaderboards & you have a lot of people saying that they simply can't get a group for a lot of dungeons or trials etc.

I have been on the receiving end of this & been told before 'Nah, sorry mate we are trying for a speed run... Sorc's has lowest DPS we won't be able to do it'.

In the context of this discussion Sorcs are great for the OP given his statement... and they are a lot of fun, great in PvP and we all hope ZoS is going to balance things a bit better for PvE...

..But please refrain from incorrect sweeping generalizations on 'Everybody who has played a sorc is complaining as they hadn't played another class' (Most have),

& saying that Sorcs are doing better than the other classes (They aren't... DK's / Templars are measurably & significantly stronger in pretty much all areas... except perhaps fun... Sorcs are a giggle!).

To the OP... as many have said in this thread, keep your Sorc, the pendulum will swing back in its favor at some stage (It always does), they are still fun & will do everything you said you want :) I would still say the same as before though, if creating a second toon its a fun idea to try a different class... you get to see the game in a new & fun way, and hedge your bets if t& when anything changes!

The plain facts is, you can enjoy the solo game with any class.

However, you'll hit a very firm glass ceiling with Sorcerers in PVE when it comes to competitive trials. You'll be like the last sickly kid to be chosen for the all-comers school football contest.

Except there won't be any teacher's around to force a team captain to pick you... and pugging trials can be frustrating, not to mention unsocial, as you never get that friendly 'team improving together' vibe from pugs.

There is a lot of positive stuff said about the Sorcerer by people who don't care about the top end of the game, but the fact is top guilds and trial running teams don't want you as a Sorc.

The other fact is - you'll enjoy the content just as much as a DK or a Templar, unless Sorcs are a particular thing for you.

    Only you know that.

But if they aren't - then what conceivable reason is there for you to level a Sorc when the other classes can go all the way to the top and can enjoy the climb just as much?

Trust me - play something else - because if you do want to get into the top end content, for whatever reason (challenge, fun, gear) you won't be forced to regret your class choice.

Don't get me wrong, I like my Sorc. and I play it well. But I also want to go into SO beyond the first boss, and to finish vet DSA after working through with a good group into the 8th arena in just two evening sessions. When those friends from one of the last good guilds I was in joined a top guild doing that content, mine was the only application turned down, because they don't recruit Sorcs.

    No other reason...

Nobody doing that content was wanting Sorcs, and the guild disintegrated. This had a pretty negative effect on my enjoyment of the game, and is a consequence of poor class balancing and having TIMED trials as the only top end game content. Both problems obvious to thousands, but something Zenimax flatly refuse to acknowledge.

    Play something else...

No it's an entirely unsupported assumption based on no established facts whatesoever.

Not to mention a persistent 'flavour of the month' way for self-styled 'game gurus' to pass off complete guesswork as 'insider knowledge'.

Roll what you want to play. The balance of the game shifts over time. Rolling what is powerful now will just leave you with what gets nerfed into the ground next month.

It's fairly safe to assume this 'rule' does not apply to DKs based on past patches...

I don't even know why you are asking what class you should play @ OP.

It is YOUR choice. YOUR game. YOUR playtime.

And not anybody else's. Just roll it and try it. If it's not fitting you can still switch to something else.
Don't hop on the Templar and Dragonknight bandwagon just because everybody else is ...

    Decide yourself! :p

I did. Sorcs are still a very viable PvP class, and that is what I enjoy playing. Plus the best way to build CP is to have as many VR1s with very little content completed as possible.

I played sorceror (pets mainly) to V6 then stopped months ago and moved to other rubbish mmos (wildstar, archeage etc) .
Loved eso but got a little bit bored with the vet content.
Returning now and looking forward to 1.6 (have re-subbed) but wondering if the similar style I had is what I should go for, I love playing Aoe dps Magic and have done in every game I've played but been reading forums for a couple of weeks and seen a lot of bad press about Sorceror........ You know what I'm getting at:
I'm mainly a casual PVE player and definitely am not bothered about min/max , but at the Same time I don't want to start again and be at a massive disadvantage because the Mage is not ideal.

So TL:DR. Not played for long time, was Sorceror (Pets , trying for AOE too) , very casual. What should I re-roll for 1.6?

    Many Thanks

Leveling sure, end game is rather different. In 1.6 PvP will consist of magical shields, as getting physically hit will take your health down considerable. We have a lot of burst capability thanks to crystal shard changes and out pets will be more considerable. But we lack a lot of other things to. Like efficient healing through damage thanks to the CD in surge being more RNG and using dots with them is a no no.

PvE end game is also different, since Wrobel has decided it would be best to implement a DPS increase through our AoE lightening. This will prove to be hassle because we might pull aggro from mobs if the tank can't hold them. We will also die much faster if not using shields or paying proper attention to attacks from mobs.

Sorcerers are in between worse and less then average, when compared to other classes. Long time hardcore players will notice some really significant problems but if you have different toons you will be much better off.

Stamina sorcerers don't have much either, but more then healing sorcerers. We just aren't were we at with other classes, unless we pigeon hole into pet specs and shields.
