Dye Station, random colors and the color picker

At a Dye Station there is an option to randomize the colors. Once in a while, sometimes a very long while, the random colors are worth accepting. I tried to use the color picker to find out what the colors were, so I could add them to my saved list. The color picker did not work on the random color choices. It would be useful if it did, I wonder why ZOS did not implement this.

    Hey there @GlassHalfFull,

We just hopped in to check this, and we were able to select the randomly generated colors using the color picker tool on the right, even without applying the scheme to the character.

Do you happen to be running any add ons? If so, please give a try to disabling them, reload the UI, and let us know if you're able to select the colors!

One thing to remember about the Dyes, they look different on each type of material and racial style. I tried in the beginning to come up with a mix of colors to apply to the templates. When I applied that template to the next set of armor, it did not look the same. Some dyes are much darker on some things, and lighter on others. The underlying material can change the hue of the dye. So, I gave up on transfering dye colors from one set to the other.

Which is why it is next to impossible to look at one dyed armor and determine exactly which dye it is, at least for me. You can see this by applying the same dye to all three slots, you will end up with 3 different colors depending on where it was applied.

So, now I just pick dyes with each armor set I make that look good on that armor. I will also change up my dyes from day to day, so one day I will be Red and Black, other days Blue and Grey, others Tan and Brown. Also, I have found that some dyes that don't look good on one armor will look better on another.

I want to make sure what I said was what you checked. I can use the picker on the right side with no problem. When I tried to use it on the random colors on the left side, so I would have the tooltip to know what the colors are, it did not work on those random colors on the left side. This means I have to guess what the colors are on the right side with the picker, which is not easy since the preview and the little color squares are not a perfect match with the model.

Disabling addons did not affect this.

    Hey there @GlassHalfFull,

Let's make sure we're running the same steps and understanding this correctly :D.
    1. Load into the dye interface
    2. Press F to select a lovely randomized color scheme. Do not apply
    3. Click the color picker on the right
      aNealwE.jpg
    4. Click the color on the left
    5. Add to the Saved Sets if needed

Are you unable to do this, or have we misunderstood the issue?

I have four saved sets. When I get to your 4, the left color is replaced by what the color picker has from the right. I cannot select from the left to replace what is on the right.

Are you using the color picker tool? The 4th one from the left above the colors on the right?

    Hey there @GlassHalfFull,

Please ensure that you have the eyedropper/color picker tool selected on the right. Once that tool is selected, head over to the left side and select one of the colors. It should then select the color, and automatically swap to the paint tool with that color selected.

Ok, I was finally able to get it to work. I had to repeatedly select the color picker. With my eyesight, the brush and color picker looked to similar.

Thank you all for your patience and assistance, I appreciate it.

@GlassHalfFull glad to hear it works! Hopefully you randomize and save a more appealing color combination than "Watermelon + Rind." :)

Since you're looking at a thread pertaining to dyes @ZOS_GaryA could you please explain why there are several pieces of armor that have large areas of what look like brown leather that CANNOT be dyed? For example:
    f26381e5-7306-4a4b-98a9-a5d5702d50b3_zpscf139607.png
See the midsection that looks like brown leather? There is no way to dye that portion and it utterly ruins the overall look of the set. Can this ever be addressed and corrected please?

Also there is this weirdness if you try to wear a Daedric motif skirt with the Necromancer robe:

Will this ever be fixed? Thank you for your attention.

    Hey there @MornaBaine,

We can certainly forward your feedback about the first issue you have reported. Currently we don't have any information on changes to areas that can't be dyed on certain armor.

The second issue is a known issue that is being actively investigated. We do not have an ETA on a resolution.

    Thanks for the reports!

Are you kidding? Watermelon + Rind is an awesome color combination! I am inspired to try it out later. I hope I have all these colors unlocked!

Best thing I've seen in the forum today.

This is the second time I've brought this issue to the forums so I really appreciate the response. Thank you. I'm glad to know the second item is already being looked into. I'm a little surprised that the first one isn't a known issue though. Oh well, here's hoping it is now. Thanks again for the response.

Um, ya, about that color. On the level 5 (storage alt) I was using, there are so few color choices, all of which seem to be neon-ugly, "Watermelon + Rind." would be the best choice.

Why does heavy armor on a low level toon need to be so fluorescent, neon and ugly?

atm there are 3 sections for each gear to be colored, in future i'd love to see 5-10 sections for each piece of gear, including gems and ornaments, different textures, materials, opacity, glow, glossy/matte surfaces, wetness of fabric after entering water/rain, water resistant material reflection of small water beads etc texture elements that would eat up a lot of gpu ^^ but look insane on 4k

It would be nice, after picking the colors, to have a slider to select the luminescence or brightness of the selected color, so the neon and florescence can be toned down.

I only have one pair of eyes and they need to last longer than the game.
