First up, if someone has suggested this before I apologise. I had a search but couldn’t spot anything quite like it.
I’ve been having a think about racial passives and how they could be made a touch more balanced, yet remain lore friendly. My first thought was “Just get rid of them”. Then I realised that this could work if replaced by something suitable.
Rather than focusing on where the character came from, we could focus on their experience and life before the soul burst.
Most players have a story of what their character did before Mannimarco started misbehaving. They could have been in the guilds, a mercenary or even postman. The racials could be replaced with three or four choices to reflect this history during character creation. I’ve put an idea of how this could look below. Please bear in mind that this would be subject to balancing by someone much cleverer than myself.
The idea is that any character of any race would be able to make these choices and select any of the available options.
Choice 1 – Pick ONE Weapon or Armour skill – Plus 15% experience gain.
Choice 2 – Pick ONE attribute / attribute regen / critical rating / critical damage bonus +2 / 4 / 6 %.
Choice 3 – Pick ONE damage resistance.
Choice 4 – I like the idea of this one being open to something a bit quirkier. Maybe a list of 8-10 things to choose from such as improved sneak speed / armour rating / harvesting time, you get the idea.
I think this would work well as it would remain lore friendly and still balance the system, while allowing players to really mould their characters how they want them to be.
