I was asked to ask this:
Why will players be locked to their region servers?
Some might prefer to play on NA while living in EU or other way round.
PC players can choose their region so why can't console players?

This is what you can read in the FAQ.Console players are automatically assigned to the megaserver in their respective home territory and are not able to switch

Has the Server situation on console been finalized yet? I have a number of friends on PS4 in the US while I am in EU and would like to play with them. Will we be able to switch megaserver on console?

Agreed. Whoever came up with the design should be shot in the foot and only admitted to hospital when he manages to find 3 other people willing to maim themselves the same way in order to accompany him.

And as far as I know, you can decide to play on the Japanese servers of FFXIV:ARR, even if you play from NA or EU. But ... they are crossplattforming so this might be a difference. Don't know, I would just like to have an adequate answer.Edited by Leijona on February 19, 2015 11:50AM0 -

They removed Region Lock in this gen consoles. Only few games are Region Locked due to content creator not because of Microsoft or Sony.
So i dont think thats the issue.1 -
