Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

Is it just me, or is equipment crafting a very flawed system?

-Far too strong when making alts or during leveling up to VR
-High requirement sets seem pointless (the stats are always the same, only the full set bonuses are different like the health, magicka and stamina values are always the same, doesn't matter if 2 trait set or 8 trait set)
-Endgame/ Endgame dungeon gear seemingly beating crafted gear in many scenarios without real alternatives for crafting.

So basically...too strong for early game, too weak for lategame.

Am I the only one that feels this way? You literally need MONTHS to be able to craft a full set that requires 8 traits...but the stats from pieces 1-4 are the same thing as the stats from a 2 trait set.

All that changes is the (often) pointless full set bonus...sure, some are great...but often the good ones' are not necessarily the ones' with high requirements.

VR10-14 gear is strong, very much so...and there is no reason for people to not go for those instead of crafted gear.
Endgame content also does not reward you with special things to craft that would be worthwhile in any way.
Reverse engineering for styles is also not a thing (since gear crafting in ESO seems to be 50% based on looks)

I feel like there should be blueprints dropping in the endgame content, together with special materials that allow crafters to recreate ancient and lost artifacts.
I'm pretty sure that there are enough destroyed and lost artifacts in TES lore just waiting to be recreated.

The best sets in the game mix crafted and dropped gear.

Seducer + warlock, Hundings + celerity, dragon + whitestrake type of thing.

So, if you are only using crafted gear then its decent, if you are only using dropped gear its decent.

If you use both then thats where the sweet spot is.

It is a system that is designed to attempt to level out gear against being OP on either crafted or dropped, and IMO it does a pretty decent job of it.

Unfortunately there are about 10 set combos that are simply better than the rest and a lot of completely overlooked because FOTM builds and synergies with each other make it hard to break away from them.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

If we could craft jewelry into sets player made would be better.

That would require every set in the entire game to be re-balanced. We could come up with some insanely OP combinations if we could craft jewelry for player crafted sets.

Pretty much this... Crafted Gear is pretty good for crafted gear, I mean most games anything that's crafted basically get's thrown to the side once end game hits, but in ESO Crafting is actually worthwhile and useful.

And some of the best class builds/gear builds include a mix of crafted sets and drop sets. However that's mostly because as Radio mentioned players can't craft their own jewelry sets... Yet... they have talked about adding in Jewelry and Spell crafting in the future so honestly its just a matter of time and getting everything worked out.

Honestly though crafting in ESO isn't bad at all, and you can really go any route by using crafted or drop sets, or a combo of both. Although I use all crafted gear, because quite honestly nothing in the drop sets really has anything I truly use/want for my main, except for the jewelry.

OP you do realize that just because a set can be learned at lvl lower than 8 does not mean it is not some of the best gear ir not the best gear at vr14 don't you. Really the only thing holding crafted back is jewelery as has been mentioned before
Magic is impressive but now Minsc leads SWORDS FOR EVERYONE!!
