World Responsiveness

We have recieved a lot of nice updates to the combat responsiveness, with improvements to weapon animation and various skills in the latest update. There is one thing that is missing though, which is world responsiveness - and by this I mean that you recieve appropriate response for when you swing your sword at a rock, or the difference in sound when you jump on grass and on a log.

I have provided a demonstration of me performing various actions to showcase the general sounds and no object and world responsiveness we currently have.

What are your thoughts? Do you feel this should be implemented?

I'm with you, it's a shame. But I'm afraid it's something the game engine just doesn't allow.

It's call collision. Also, PvP is lagging even now. This will add a lot of lags because of additional calculations.
    Make sweetrolls, not nerfs!

This kind of thing could easily be processed on the client side and would not have to bog down the server. Even if a different player is next to you attacking a rock, the server is going to send your client that players actions so they can be shown on your screen regardless. It would then be up to your client to figure out if a rock smashing sound needs to be played, not because the server told the client about the sound but because the action implys the sound.

This would really add a big ++ in immersion to the game! I would totally LOVE it!

I guess they could have easily implemented that for the budget of one of their expensive CGI trailers and would have still money left.

At this point of time there is no way this will ever get implemented - at least I can't imagine that this nice feature would directly translate into more profit than it would cost. They now must concentrate on stuff for which people would pay additional money in the crown store and for that there are just better options.

I thought of the possibility that it would cause lag, which indeed would be dumb for Cyrodiil especially. Though I think this is pretty simple to implement - adding collision to player actions, implementation of various sounds to replace the old general one, and making sure you don't render the actions of players from far away, and only within your hearing range. If you compare spamming skills to hitting a rock with collision, you can tell which one would cause the most lag.

With the addition of this feature, it would truly add to the game immersiveness, as has been mentioned before. It would also add more of an atmosphere to the various climates we have in the game.

I can see it now. Zergs spamming Healing Springs in a corner, while light attack weaving a wall at the same time...

Maybe they can create a chain gang DLC that includes the sound a rock makes when you hit it.

I think we would only need interaction noise for our own character, and nobody else.

That would diminish the immersiveness of it. We can hear other players perform actions and spells as of now, so we should be able to hear the response another player recieves from for example hacking on a tree.

It truly would not create lag, as the cause of all current lag is mostly skill effects, not the sound it produces.

I completely agree with you. Having your sword bounce off a tree, or little pieces of grass float in the air after you swing would be awesome!

I've all but given up hope on things like this though. Immersion enhancing things like sitting in chairs, using ladders, laying in beds, underwater environments, the appropriate number of moon reflections in the water, night ACTUALLY being frightening, equal day/night distribution, appropriate Khajiit and Argonian character creations with the choice of digitigrade or plantigrade feet, first person horse riding, the cluttering up of empty rooms & balconies, a journal that actually LOOKS like a journal, destructible containers (barrels and such), Improved Horse AI (or ANY Horse AI), functional mouse free-look in first person, a functional LFG tool, more intuitive grouping tools in general, full-body awareness with first person shadows, and weather that is the same for all players in a zone are things that I really don't think we have any hope of getting.

They cant monetize immersion, so it's probably not worth the effort. :disappointed:
What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
    That's right... Horse.

Perhaps if we flood the forum enough with requests for immersive enhancements, they will have no choice but to work on it ;)

I know one does not have anything to do with the other but using the word immersion for anything in the game for a desired effect gives me the shivers.. World of Warcraft and thier flying mounts.. Ill say again I know one has nothing to do with the other but please for my sanity use another word..lol

Seriously though.. this is a good idea but I would rather they focus on more quests and fixing pvp.
This is were my signature would be if I was allowed one.

I agree with the OP those things would be great but as I quote now this someone elses post, I agree with this even more - especially with (more and more and interesting quests?) and - even though I do not play pvp that much I have heard that there is a lot to be fixed. Again, I do agree with the OP but first things first, shrug.

I love the scenery and music and that is(!) one of the reasons I play this game of course. But if there are gameplay vice problems, those should be checked first I thkink. And content, we need a lot of content even if it is nice to see that probably a lot of new players have joined also so everything is new to them.

    Cheers...

I mean because the footsteps of 100 players in Cyrodiil is going to start sounding repetitive really fast unless sounds were restricted to about a 10m radius

I agree. There are matters that should be tended to first, but world responsiveness should definitely be implemented at one point.
