Absolutely agree with you. I tried the engulifn flames found myself running out of self heals and volatile armor to quickly.

I play a stamina based DK, Redguard, with dual wield and 2H. In PvE, I'm doing quite fine. In PvP, I stink. But, I think there's some hope that this is due to my abilities rather than a general flaw of my build.

As you can see in many other threads here, the general advise with respect to questions such as yours is to simply try it out for yourself. Start with leveling two weapons of your choice, try to level all three armour types, likewise for the class skills. Then, just play around with your skills and decide for the ones you feel most comfortable with, for whatever reason. Heck, you can even try vampirism or lycanthropy, and if it doesn't suit you, get cured.

The corresponding negative advise would be: Don't search your eyes bloody for The One Build to rule'em all. Most likely, you'll deprive yourself of one of the most fun things in this game, namely developing a build that you like.
