What's the deal with jumping?

I mean jumping constantly while fighting in MMOs. I've been perplexed by this habit since like 2002. Once I load up a gameplay video made by a jumping addict, that's all I can think about. Please, stop jumping so much, y'all. I mean you don't have to, but for the sake of me, some anonymous dude on the internet, please stop jumping.

(Not serious... But really, wtf?)

I watched a Twitch stream recently where the guy was hopping around like a rabbit. I think it is caused by a hyperactive player. They cannot sit still. It feels wrong to them.

So think its the old dudes like me that played shooters back then where you always jomped around. It also confuse the enemy sometimes :P

I do it a lot, just a habit from my counter strike days etc where bunny hopping was rampant. Even just roaming about i'm always jumping, especially as you sort of can bunny hop down an incline.

In a LOT of the PvP games (WoW was a good example), jumping made it harder to target your character by opponents (other than TAB-targeting) since clicking on a jumper is haphazard. Thus many players got in that habit.

Some games have smaller hitboxes, so if you jump as a caster it's trickier for the mele's to reach you with their attacks. This is not the case in ESO, but hard to get rid of old habits I guess.

As far as I understand it also helps many players with rotation, focus and skill rhythm. Adding a jump here and there, some how makes it easier to get the right skills or abilities of. Sort of like tapping your pen. Annoying as hell to watch.

When this immediate evil power has been defeated, we shall not yet have won the long battle with the elemental barbarities. Another evil, it may be an invisible adversary, will attempt, again, and yet again, to destroy our frail civilization. Is it true, I wonder, that the only way to escape a war is to be in it?

It's the Call Of Duty mentality. I love it when they jump in COD thinking it's somehow going to save them. I don't care if you crawl, walk, run, or jump around that corner, you're still going to eat an RPG....

Yeah, it's silly. But so is everyone running all the time. I know running is practical but it looks like something is chasing you ;)

When in a safe area and with no pressing need (e.g. group waiting on me to repair and clear bags) I walk. It's a gorgeous game world.

Today some new player followed me, running in bursts like everyone else. He was concerned that my moving "in slow motion" as he put it was perhaps a client bug.

The funniest are those who run, check the map, run, check the map, etc. Often we're bound for the same place and I get there before them.

Leftover habit from FPS style shooters. People bunny hop to make themselves a harder target to hit. Not sure if it works here,(I actually hope it doesn't, just to spite all the fools that do it regularly.)
I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

Why stand still? I'll fight until my last Hit point, or stamina point... Depending on you know, the intelligence of the enemy. I've run out of stamina for 20-30s and didn't get stunned before... Twas sad. :smirk:

This is... Why... Just.... No... That's like... It's like poisons in this game, utterly pointless. It's not like jumping gives the jumper a tactical advantage... I can't.. I can't even...

For me, it depends on my character.

My Khajiit, Dar-Ja'Taba, jumps over everything he can. He's very spritely. He has gotten seriously injured on more than one occasion because he didn't look before he jumped, but more often than not, not looking leads to some excitement.

My Redguard, Gidorick, very rarely jumps. He takes the long way around fences and always looks for stairs. Anything more than a 5 foot drop and he's looking for another way around. :unamused:

My imperial, Gidian, isn't "jumpy" but he's pretty light on his feet. He will jump over low walls and off tall ledges but he doesn't risk his life and limp like Ja'Taba. :relieved:

I honestly blame Morrowind and Oblivion. If you ran around jumping it would raise acrobatics and you could eventually jump on water! It was twice as fast to jump over water than swimming.

They should make jumping cost a lil bit of stamina...like very little stamina. Jumping in heavy armor swining and huge sword doesn't make any sense. Plus you can do it all day without breaking a sweat. If you run 10 ft you get exhuasted though. It really throws all the beautiful gameplay and lore out of the window when everyone is getting froggy.
