ShadowScout you are totally correct that if I looked at race as a purely stat-driven calculation, or possibly as an asthetic choice equivalent to the colors used at the dye stations, that it wouldn't / shouldn't matter.

Which is why I'm not running the game. I'm sure I'd alienate half the player base. Or more.

My take on if you don't like where you went with a character - well then roll up a new one. I think that the whole re-statting thing is overly generous, but I know that some folks consider it essential. I've used it and enjoyed it.

I've also re-rolled, in one instance because the color of my character's eyes wasn't working for how I pictured her. She had just gotten to 10th level. I think I'd had her a couple of months or so.

And "all the other MMO's allow it" ... well, since my complaint about silly/ disprespectful/ obnoxious behavior (ultimates in banks, people running around naked swinging weapons & dancing and fart jokes taking up chat bandwidth) tends to be to mutter that they are acting like a 13-year old (or some days "like a 7 year old") then you can imagine my tolerance level to complaints for yet one more thing that "I should be able to get" because "THEY get it/ it's not FAIR" - which is to say .... none.

Yes, yes, you are right. I'm being intolerant and immature.

    I'm okay with that.

Yea ok i'll just re-roll 9 months worth of investment in a game i've paid for because some misguided dev thinks it's a good idea to change the fundamental mechanics of the game.

    ok dude - good one.

Can't recall ever re-rolling due to eye colour, but I've hit the 'delete limit' more than once trying to get hair colour/style right .. not helped by the poor lighting in the character creation screen, FFXIV allows you to see your character in three typical zone settings both at midday and midnight, that's awesome and means you're totally sure WYSIWYG in the character creation process.

Spangla, yes, if you go into a game where it's new and you are told there will be changes and updates and that you have 8 character slots and you get this upset about a change to a buff...... then stop playing.

Your "investment" was not guaranteed to be "the ideal mix" or the "final version of the game". You (hopefully) had fun, explored options, and learned what this universe and this MMO were like.

Now you know. Make a choice.

Kragorn, I know what you mean about creation frustration. I've had quite a few characters that had 3-4 incarnations 'cause once I got them out of cold harbor they didn't look like they'd looked. Argh.

And then I go back and start over. And play with the randomize button a lot.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Yeah, been there, done that. Though it was skin color for me... the altmer I made for my healer alt just looked too pale in the game...
Though it gets harder to reroll once you invested more then the pittance to get a character to level 10... you think of all the time spent, all the research done, and then you decide its not worth throwing away all those hours, and keep playing in coldharbour despite the fact that you are not exactly happy with your characters hairstyle or something, and fervently pray for the barbershop to come soon...

Race change, I never yet had to even consider in ESO, I plan my characters well enough, and care little about the actual racial perks.

But I wouldn't deny it to those who Do care. I know the kind, they usually kick my bum in Cyrodil... or let me hide in their wake. To each their own, live and let live, do as you wish as long as its no harm. (and if they have to pay a hefty crown price for it, that will finance the barbershop I want to come that much sooner :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: )

Forum is a wash with people who evidently have too much time on their hands. Re-roll is simply not a solution or option.

Particularly in the face of a patch such as this which changes the very foundations of the game, and i might add, a patch that at best only 50% of people seem to think is a good thing.

Shadowscout I think you and I have similar ideas and approach them in opposite ways. To me ... and I get that I'm weird .... the fact that I had invested time into the character made me more likely to re-roll her to get her "right".

As for time and investment - earlier I was reading about someone who complained that only getting 1 veteran level after 10 hours of play was massively unfair. I had this character .... oh probably a month or so. I'd played her (like most of my characters) with friends so that sometimes she got lots of XP and sometimes she was playing "above her level" and got something like 14% XP (I think it's foundry tactical that gives all those sort of stats).

If level was the only measure of value I used ... well it's just not.

Spangla I agree that there are a lot of folks who don't think that patch is a good idea. I think that what I've seen of the visual armor changes and the bits I've heard about what's going to happen in provisioning - well, I haven't seen anything that I think is going to be an improvement and plenty that I think will really turn out badly.

Oh well. Lucky for me, I'm here to have fun gaming with my best friend. Anything else is pretty much gravy.

    A fair solution for all...

Since the racial pasives have been changed several times already since the beginning of ESO I think it would be fair to offer players a way to change their native racial pasives.

I propose that zos give all characters the ability to unlock and "channel the spirit" (aka passives) of another race.

This would allow any race to use the passive a of any other race in place of their own, while retaining the "look" of there original race.

The different racial passives could be unlocked though a series of quests or as an addition to the champion system.

It would work in a similar style to Mundas stone effects.

As the changes have affected all characters this option should be avalible to all, though a way to speed up the unlock "could" be sold though the cash shop.

This might be a fair solution to the problems that have arisen by zos continually changing racial pasives now and into the future.

Thanks for reading. We have a verry passionate community here on the forums so please be kind to my humble idea

Then they'll have to change the title. The various races having their various perks and specialities, is so ingrown in ES lore, that if suddenly any race could get any trait, it simply wouldn't be an Elder Scrolls game anymore.

Racial bonuses are racist! Who created this system, Hilter? (Godwin strikes again!) *can't say his name, so had to use the Monty Python verson*
