Thanks for the math but you base it on the current 25% time reduction passive skill which did not go live until Update 4 in mid-September. Before then, 20% was the maximum time reduction. That pushes back the completion date even further. Either way, it will probably be May before someone has all traits researched for all items on a single character, provided they did so legitimately.

And yes, there was a bug/exploit back in April/May that dramatically reduced research time. It was quietly and quickly fixed. If someone had traveled down that path, they would be able to finish the research of nine traits on all items sometime this month.
I should have my 9th trait on all items on my only playing toon done in April. I'm on nirnhoned on everything, about 35% done. I could have pushed this a little, but 9th trait and it's armor are meh, so I saw no need to blow gold on it. But I will be done before a year in game, and I had no idea of any exploit.

In that case you must have benefited from the bug/exploit without realizing it. Otherwise that timeline is impossible.

Of course, I've got 8 traits researched on everything, and I have had for quite some time. It's spread across 3 characters, but I didn't optimize the way I spread it very well, so the spread shouldn't have made that much of a difference to my own timeline - especially considering that I wasted a lot of time in between finishing research on 1 trait and starting research on the next (often I went several days without realizing that I could start research on a new one), and considering that I didn't even start researching traits right at launch (it was at least a week or two before I decided to start crafting, and at first I was only going to do blacksmithing). So I'm starting to wonder if I took advantage of that bug/exploit without realizing it. Heck, until I read this thread I didn't even know that there had been a research bug/exploit.

Blacksmithing has 14 items to research traits for (the 7 different heavy armour pieces, and the 7 different weapons), so it'll take just over 389 days to get all 9 traits on all of them (it'll take 4 sprints of researching traits on 3 items at a time, followed by 1 sprint of researching traits on the 2 remaining items to complete them all).

If you had to leave a slot open that long you're doing it wrong. If you weaved in 5 items you could reduce that time.

Consider that you could pack 5 items in like this:
    [ 1a 1d 1e 2c 3a 3d 3e 4c
    [ 1b 2a--- 2d 3b 4a--- 4d
    [ 1c 2b--- 2e 3c 4b--- 4e
(scale changes after the 2s finish)
    etc...

You could do 3 full sprints then this pattern to get 8 items with no empty research slots. It'd save you the research time for 1st + 3rd + 5th + 7th.

For 9 traits, you'd have to interweave more, but you could still keep it so that you don't have a blank research slot hardly at all. It'd save you about 25 days on your 389-day 'minimum' to just under one year. It's a good thing those upper sets aren't that good, since that's a heck of a catchup for a new player.

So assuming the perfect research lineup at 364 days, it should still take into April to complete all 9 traits without some sort of exploit. Intentional or not.

I myself don't go for all the traits. The sets I plan to use all take only 2-4 traits, so I don't bother getting the other 4 when I wont be needing them

So I did a spreadsheet projecting my 9th trait completion. Last few items will be right at the end of April. I started my research on day 1 of early access, and rarely had more than a few hours with an open research slot. I pushed my crafting as hard as I could to get access to 3rd slot in all crafts. I even went so far as to set alarms for the wee hours if that is when research completed. I could be finished early April for nirnhoned, but I did not start these until about a month after that update due to price for nirnhone items. I followed the research times very closely, and I don't think any exploit affected me. How did this exploit work?

I'm curious when others will have 9th trait on all items on one character.

Your complaining is too early... wait and see the hours for the last trait ;) You're lucky now it is ONLY 2 weeks!

Would be nice if they gave us a challenge or something to shorten the time. This wait seems so pointless.

Awesome idea! Maybe finding a rare book that could reduce research time? I think this could really work. Though it would have to be bound on pick up so they can't be sold. Otherwise you'd have players buying like 10 at a time and researching all their traits overnight.

No, but that would be a nice feature to include if crafting ever gets improvements.

It wouldn't surprise me if there was a cash shop that sped this up a fair bit now that we know there'll be a full-blown cash shop in the game.

    Don't worry.

They will most likely offer "bosters" in the cash shop to speed this up.

Honestly I was pissed of that it would take a complete month to learn the final trait, basically robbing you of the $15 dollar sub fee with that. But now ESO is going B2P I can tolerate it.

I am one month away from 9 trait on everything, but it takes two crafters. I have one for heavy, medium, and woodworking, and one for light and metal weapons.

The biggest pain was when I realized that my second crafting alt had 9 trait items available, but I couldn't get her to the forges in craglorn or the mages/fighters guilds. I had to do some serious powerleveling and questing. Haha

But the biggest problem with 2 crafters is that you have to get double the Motifs, which can be a little pricey.
