Maintenance for the week of April 13:

If it has the word system or mechanics....Its not content!!!

This whole 1.6 patch is all about adding new systems and updating abilities, graphics, and mechanics. But there is no actual content to play.

If you think about systems and mechanics as upgrading your car and things to do as where you can drive.....what good is having a sports car if you can only drive around the parking lot?

When are they adding the content?
I'm kind of a small deal!

Hell, yeah! Finally a right question. Let me introduce b2p model and console release, my friend. I wouldn't expect any new content soon. I think maybe September or later.

Champion system is definitely a rework of end game. While I think it adds more to the game in terms of character progression, I don't see it as "new content". On the other hand, the Justice System is definitely new content in my eyes. It's not a new zone, sure, but it adds a new dimension to the game allowing you to do new things. It's horizontal content instead of vertical content and the great thing is that it's applicable to any level at any time as opposed to things like Craglorn or new zones that would probably require you to be max level to explore.

Justice System also has a new skill line, so all is good with the world.

And on a side note, ESO is finally starting to feel like an Elder Scrolls game. =)

For sure! They will definitely need to come out with some new content soon after console release to make sure people feel the need to subscribe.

If they don't, every new player will just buy the game and play for free for a long time given that 1.6 is included with the new Tamriel Unlimited.

Yup...I am not sure I will sub until another DLC content patch or 2 comes out....Obviously 15/month for unlimited access to 1 content patch is not as valuable as unlimited access to say 10 dlcs

I can see where you are coming from and have had similar thoughts. I look at it this way. New content (both PVP and PVE) added to a system with poor design, buggy, non-user friendly is going to be negatively affected by the problems with the underlying system/mechanics. It won't matter how good the new content is if it is plagued by system/mechanics shortcomings.

Let's just assume that the redesign in 1.6 improves the quality of the game's systems and mechanics to the point that ZOS decides the game is finally performing at an acceptable quality standard. That frees them to start allocating more resources to developing new content instead of fixing the problems with the system/mechanics.

Justice system is effectively new content, you can start thieving and look for fences. No specific quests, I agree, but it is new stuff you can do, so does qualify as content (even if only barely).

Also OP not every update will be new content, some like this one will be fixes and streamlining.

Look at it this way OP, what's the point of new 'content' if there's no actual character advancement? At least now our chars can continue to grow while they work through any new future content, but yeah, it seems to be quite the bummer that we might have to wait a while for it...at least a sub will no longer be necessary in the meantime.

The main thing is you need content to "grow". TBH I really quick get bored of JS. Maybe it's because I used tamplate. I'll try when they roll European characters. And doing the same dungeons over and over again every day is pretty annoying. This system is pretty ok for VR1 (Cadwell's Silver and Gold), but there is almost nothing to do for VR14 players.

Not a fair analogy. A car is on meant for one thing ultimately. It can be stylized and romanticized as much as you like - it is a conveyance.

An MMO online game is multiple things to multiple ppl. As such what may be 'content' to some is possibly a complete waste of time to others.

Point: Just because you personally don't think additions are substantial does not necessarily make it so in the view of others. Chief among the group of 'others' ZoS it seems...

Well you can say that all you want but post 1.6, we are going to be doing the same ole daily pledges, alts, pvp, just like we have always done with the addition of stealing some apples and running from guards...Doesn't seem like anything tangibly new activities to me.

Justice System IS new content, but just barely. Spellcrafting, as much as I long for it (and secretly suspect ZOS has scrapped it), would STILL only just barely qualify as new content. New CONTENT is NEW ZONES. New places to explore, new quests, new goodies to get! Maybe even new playable races! So while I'll grudgingly say the Justice System is "new content" (that should have been in the game at launch btw) I have to overall agree with the OP.

I would agree in theory with the point OP makes, but like others I would argue that the justice system is both a game mechanics update and new content.

To me the definition of new content is if it gives you more things to do (and by this I mean meaningful things to do) when playing, whether it be new places to explore, new quests to do, or, in this case, a new way to interact with NPCs in a way that can be fun, skill-testing, and challenging.

Now is it a lot of new content? Well, I haven't had a chance to play on the PTS yet, so I can't say for sure. My guess is probably not, but I would still say that it is new content.

Its new content if you want to steal stuff from NPCs. If you take the moral high-ground so to speak, then it's really nothing until later on, when they enable the pvp portion.

It's still new content. If you choose not to partake in the new content, that's your choice, but it doesn't change the fact that there is new content.

Well then drop sub 'til something you feel qualifies as 'content' comes along.

You remind me of so many endgamers i've played with in other MMOs. They get to a point were everything is old hat and nothing can help them get that same thrill of when they first started playing again. It is like a junky constantly chasing that first hit and they are never ever satisfied because they can never ever get there again.

Anywho, that's who you remind me of anyway and i always give out that same bit of advice.

Considering I just lost six hours of my life on the PTS messing around and lover it, I think this system and mechanics will help me create my own content for a while yet.

Hop over onto the PTS and give it a go OP, try stealing some stuff, running from guards, or replay some dungeons, trials, PVP with the new skills/changes. Pretty sure you'll find plenty to keep you busy or new challenges with the old content.

Justice system is content for me at least, opens whole new avenue of gameplay to make your own story. This is Elder scrolls content.

Sad thing is that when at last, game starts to feel more like TES than stupid MMO, they give up and introduce free to play :(

Now we just need Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild ... actual central parts to Elder Scrolls.

Until then, no matter what they add, it will never feel like an Elder Scrolls game to me.

I enjoy the game in small doses but I don't view it as an Elder Scrolls game. It's more like a spin off. It has the same zones but it's a whole different show.

Even Fighters Guild and Mages Guild don't feel like Elder Scrolls versions.

NPC's hired the Fighters Guild for various things ... not here they don't. Here we had a soap opera quest chain.

I'm actually quite worried that's what they will turn DB and Thieves Guild into.

No contracts, no thieving missions just a long linear quest chain that ends with an achievement and a title. No follow up contracts to repeat or random thieving quests.

I really hope they take inspiration from the Oblivion thieves and DB questlines more than the skyrim counterparts. I much preferred the "Master Thief Extraordinaire" theme of the Oblivion questline than the "No love amongst thieves" theme of skyrim.

Same for DB. The oblivion questline felt more suspenseful to me than the skyrim one.

How is content defined? How is mechanics defined? That's the problem here.

Mechanics is the set of rules in the world every one must abide by.
    Rule#1 Bruce Wayne is human.
Rule#2 Bruce Wayne lost his parents to gun violence
Rule#3 Bruce Wayne has plenty of $$$
Rule#4 Bruce Wayne has anger problems.
Rule#5 Bruce Wayne has and relies on Alfred Pennyworth.
Rule#6 Gotham City is overrun with crime.

Take those rules and build on top of that.
    Content#1 Bruce makes the batcave.
Content#2 Bruce creates a batman costume and batmobile
Content#3 Bruce wants to make an impact on Gotham City.

The combines rules and content is the story... or if you play games, the Arkham series.

Translation to this game, the mechanics are we can steal from npc, if we are caught we have to pay a price. The content is a battle royale in the middle of a town. Or the content is self satisfaction of being a no good thug. In a game, we are the content.

Anyone manage to beat these guards on pts? What are the spoils?
