Any trial version? (even in the near future)

I tried to find some info about a possible trial version (3-7 days for free, maybe with a limited number of invites from a current player), but I could not find any.
I have a nice number of friends from another mmorpg who are getting bored and wanted to give ESO a try... but I guess the only way is to buy the game with 30 days in it... but what they wanted is just a few free days to test it and see how the game runs on their pc, stuff like that.
Anyone knows if there is (or will be there) something like a free 3-5 days trial?
Thanks!

There is no such thing. Theres also nothing planned by Zenimax for now. Unfortunatly.
Would be a great idea to get new players in. The game is in a good state by now. At least for the starting areas. I dont see any problem with a free limited trial.

Goldsellers come and go, regardless of a fee. They could have limited access to the chat system though. Like dont let em talk in zonechats, whisper ppl when they are not friends etc.

    The point being....?

Do you really think a limited trial couldn't have easy to implement restrictions that prevent this? Such as, I don't know, limiting or restricting trade to other players?

But no, let's just not even consider something that would serve as a great introduction to the people who might love the game but don't want to risk the up front costs to simply check it out.

Yeah, no MMO in the history of gaming has ever done that!

So far no they haven't said anything about it which confuses me. I think they will eventually but not sure if they are waiting for console release or for it to be out longer or what. FF 14 did free weekends after the first content push and now offers a free trial. It just makes sense from a business standpoint

Why don't they download it and then you can log onto your account and see how it runs? That would save them the initial outlay. I'm not saying let them play your account, it would just show what they would be getting if they stumped up the cash.

Free trials massivly increase gold spam, so if they can be avoided, it's better for the currently paying customers.

So, everyone who wants to try the game, just has to find a friend who's paying, let them download it and play on their account!

The truth is, it's "better for the currently paying customers" to have a thriving, well funded game, and providing a trial, with limitations to avoid spamming--which are easy to do by the way. Start with a simple gold cap, and limitations on player-to-player trading and mail on trial accounts. That would give a lot of players a chance to try it and then buy it when they like it.

This is ESPECIALLY needed with this game, which took a lot of hits at launch and has a bad rep with a lot of people who've never touched it. Can't count the number of new players I've seen say "Wow--from what I read on the forums/review sights, I thought this game would suck, but it's fantastic!" We need a free way for people to check it out because there's a lot of people who wouldn't be willing to risk money based on some of the toxic, know-nothing commentary out there.

Its all about marketing. Surely such option will appear in the future, however as of now, game is fresh out and ZOS doesnt need it yet.

You might have noticed a Steam availability tho, which is first step as Steam itself is a distribution channel for selling games and ZOS pays Valve commission for each copy sold there

I was just saying how you can do it with what is currently available to you.

There is currently no free trial, you just need to accept the reality of that.

They could also put the trial accounts in an separate instance like the PST.
Downside is that you could not introduce an friend to game without making an trial account yourself.

The time of the console beta would be an nice time to introduce trial accounts this way as they could use the beta servers for this too and the hype around the console version would also bring in more pc players.

Goldsellers abandoned ship a month or two back like rats. No reason for them to stay if they have noone to sell stuff to.

I guess since this game's on steam already, they should give a free week there to make some people join.

why does everyone contribute in strings of misinformation and fortune telling? Cannot understand..

    1) no one abandoned any ship, check online gold sellers, a hasty google-ing shows only -one-, one site closed down. All others are still working
    2) representative of the state of affairs is that the gold pricing is pretty much the same with what it was about a month ago; ie, because there is bound to be someone (hint) that won't grasp it, they don't have any significant issues farming it online, or the prices would have skyrocketed
    3) this is still the same game that (illogically, wrongly) leaves many of the controls to be checked on the client side, rathen than the server side. It is precisely what caused all the issues in the first place. Modifying it to cull the easier ways to exploit it (such as flying bots) is one thing, changing the whole game's engine code, is another. And one you will not get to see, ever.
    4) adding the ability to create multiple accounts for zero a cost, zero a validation process (my cat can have a verified email) is obviously, or should have been in your case, only going to impact us worse. This is a necessity for trial periods should you not be aware of it.

now that we have sorted every expert's informed and infallible opinion, to return to topic:

    a) they have an imminent console launch. A trial right now will not serve them as much as it would have had in a later stage since:
    - it may curtail sales numbers since people will actually be able to try before buying
    - hype is just that, and they have a PR machine that costs them a LOT. You tend to grease that one out, make it last as long as you can. Trials are for later.
    - the trend has (sadly) solidified, where most consumers pre-order without even having a clue about what they are purchasing. Like with PR, you tend to let that stretch to its absolute maximum
    b) who told you, or anyone else for that matter, that they need one? They are a private company, under no obligation to post sale or sub numbers. Might be they are going well enough to not need one, ever thought of that?
    c) a trial has a lot more going to it than may be apparent. There is security to be worked out, programming to be made, future scenarios to be envisaged. Is it a new area, separate? Will it be segregated? To what extent? ie will it even become a f2p or not? And so on
    d) it is obvious that prior to extending themselves even further, they have a few kinks to sort out. It is only a weeks since the Steam bunch of people joined the ride.
    Pride, honour and purity

Limited trial with the following conditions would be great.
    * No trading in any form.
    * No sending whispers/tells.
    * No shouting or posting to general, or guild chats.

And other such features of interest to a gold spammer.

With those plugged off, I could invite friends to check out ESO. Some of the are very hesitant to try any new games, because they are rather old school and disinclined to... well... try anything that isn't nearly a decade old.

Free trial people take up names. If hey do this they should make a separate server for the trials and if they choose to sub they get transferred over to the real server, and if the names they used on the trial server are already taken on the real server they have to make a new name.

This way perfectly good names aren't wasted on trial only people, and we're less likely to see Gblburglboo, Fopsynapicwex and Ypsgyniput running around after 6 months of trial accounts.

    Thanks for all your answers.
My idea was very simple (and would not help gold sellers):
    1) I am a registered player, since day 1.
    2) I have 3-4 friends who would like to try
    3) Zenimax gives me, as reward for being registered since day 1, 4 unique codes that will allow my friends to create a temporary account
    4) I send 1 code each to my friend, and they can register and play for 4-5 days. With limited chat/whisper capabilities.
    5) If they like it, they pay the monthly fee, unlocking their account and making it a 100% normal account.

I can't let them come and test the game on my pc because they live in different towns in my country, we are all from the same guild in other mmorpg, but not from the same town. I could send them my account details, but I think this would be against the Game terms, and it may get my account banned.

Anyway, thank you all for your help.

I think free trial-periods would be a really good idea. I wouldn't recommend anyone buying this game without trying it first anyway (because let's be honest, ESO isn't for everyone). Luckily I had the luxury of being in the beta testing, it would be great to extent that "try before you buy" to other people.

Fair point on trials taking up names.

Though I already see people with names like Gblburglboo running around. ;)

Plenty of people with names like "FartLord Master" or [snip] too. -_- Part of me wishes ESO had a strict naming policy.

When you see em in chat report em or out in the world. They do look at the reports and make people change their name. I know of at least 5 people I have reported that a few days later had to change their name. How do I know? Because they were screaming in zone about it. They don't seem to care about copyrighted material, but anything the particular tech who gets the ticket also finds offensive will get a slap.

They wont do this, simply because they know the game sucks and has serious issues. They know if they let people try it first, they wont buy it. (And will most likely cause the games rating to sink even more then it already has on Metacritic which will impact future sales of the game).

So they force people to buy it first, knowing that they wont continue to play it (in its current condition) because it sucks and has serious issues. But don't have to care or worry about retaining them because they already have their money.

    OR

That the player will keep playing it even though it sucks because they've already spent nearly 100$ on it, and don;t want to feel like it was a waste of money.

Any game worth anything, offers a free trial. If I game does not have a free trial 6 months after it's official release, that's a red flag that the game company is probably hiding something about the game that they don't want to show you until you've paid for it, because if they did, you wouldn't buy it.

In ESO's case, well 9 Months after official release and were still paying to Beta test it. Go figure why there's no Free Trial...

Name one AAA MMORPG, besides ESO, that "after" 9 months still does not have a free trial.

I can't think of a single one and I've played 100's. Most introduce a Trial after 6 months, some do it after 3.
